KISS "SONIC BOOM" US CHART POSITION BILLBOARD FOR WEEK #3

KISS's "SONIC BOOM" will chart it's third week at #17. These are great numbers for KISS compared to 1998's "PSYCHO CIRCUS" that charted at #58 in it's second week. Now KISS should (HINT: "SAY YEAH") release another "FOR RADIO TRACK" to keep the momentum going while they are out on tour in the US - Avery successful tour I might add!!

KISS VIDEO SHOOT HD-STUDIOS/DETROIT

(from Shootonline)

Southfield, MI, October 26, 2009 SHOOT Publicity Wire --- Legendary rockers KISS recently stormed into 'Detroit Rock City' in September 2009. While in town, the foursome paid a visit to hdstudios' A-Stage to shoot a new music video with production company Merge/Crossroads. hdstudios is a division of Grace & Wild, Inc.

The band was in town to open the U.S. portion of its "KISS Alive 35" tour at Cobo Arena in Detroit on Friday, September 18. They came to hdstudios the day prior, to shoot footage for a music video for their new single, "Modern Day Delilah". Merge/Crossroads captured green screen footage of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer walking through a miniaturized CGI version of Detroit. They towered over buildings and walked around the city, passing Detroit landmarks such as the Renaissance Center and the People Mover.

BankAtlantic Center, Sunrise

Better Than: Being 10 years-old all over again. From the number of kids running around the BankAtlantic Center at Kiss's show last night, many replete with full make-up, it's apparent that one need not be of a certain age to appreciate the hard rock demigods -- you just have to feel it. Oh, I'm not talkin' about feeling 30 or 40 or 50 or more. I'm talkin' about feeling like a 10-year-old. And with Kiss, you could be bridging the century mark and still feel as if you were in fifth grade.

And I'll tell you right now: there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, I'd argue that it's a damn good thing indeed. And if more folks would let loose their inner child every once in awhile, this wild world would be a much better place.

Of course that would entail Kiss never coming off the road. But hey, if the recently-anointed Rock and Roll Hall of Famers can make it to "Alive 35" who's to say they can't keep it up in perpetuity? And so long as Kiss keeps knocking 'em outta the arena as they did at BankAtlantic last night, everybody's inner child will be running freely for some time to come.

From the get it was evident we were all in for a night of neo-vintage Kiss. The pile-driving "Deuce" opened the show, just as it did lo those many years ago when the Kiss Alive LP first broke the band in all the lands. And with its lights and its loud and the bombs bursting in mid-air, the song slammed home as if it were 1975 all over again. Hell, they even prefaced the show with the trademark intro: "You wanted the best and you got it. The hottest band in the land. Kiss!"

If I'm not mistaken -- and I was jumping around like such a tyke it's a good possibility that I am -- Kiss next hit with Alive's "Strutter," "Got to Choose" and "Hotter Than Hell," again, just as they did way back when. But instead of saving "Let Me Go, Rock 'n' Roll" for the end, they put it up front amid the initial onslaught.

Unfortunately, to me anyway (and this was the only unfortunate thing about last night), "Rock 'n' Roll" set up a series of extended solos and chants that seemed almost superfluous considering the kickass songs Kiss has to rely upon. But since it all led up to Gene Simmons's blood-soaked rising high into the rafters for "I Love it Loud," I suppose it was well worth the wait. If you think Simmons is scary up close, imagine him lording over the arena from 100 feet in the air. It was enough to make you go out and kill all your idols.

ERIC SINGER Q& A

ERIC SINGER: NEW TUNES LIVE? ONE DAY AT A TIME...
(from DeuceNews)
DeuceNews readers, today 22-10-09, I have the honour and the great pleasure to post an amazing
Q&A with our ERIC SINGER!!!
Hi Eric, thanks so much for your time!!!
Sonic Boom debuted here in Italy and all over Europe really with boom.
Did you expect this amazing success all over the places?

We are very happy and excited about Sonic Boom and KISS these days ! The band really
feels that we made a very strong record and captured the KISS energy on tape that we bring
to the stage every night.
We thank all of you for the support and are glad you all love it too.

Recently Paul stated that almost the whole album was two takes and the few songs that worried you
were because you had to do a third and it was just kind of like as a safety. Was it quite like
recording live, right?

It was recording 'Live" since we played in a room as a band with no click tracks or drum
machines to play along with. That is the way records were made in the early years of KISS.

Out of the 11 Sonic Boom songs I have to admit that Tommy's and your are the ones with a sense of
freshness and "new" that gave this record a really new vibe in the KISS sound. How it was singing
on a new KISS tune? Was Paul very demanding for your vocals?

Tommy and I are both happy to contribute to the KISS sound and add our voices to the songs.
Paul was very supportive of me singing in the studio and live and has always been one of my
biggest fans for me to sing !

The new KISS stage looks amazing and your drums set is finally like what most of the fans wanted:
double bass!!! Did you push Gene and Paul for that or it came out smoothly?

I love the new KISS stage and I felt I need a fuller looking drum kit on that giant KISS sign !
We just wanted a fresh new look for the whole show.

Last question (I would ask tons of questions but...) we heard that during sound checks you are
playing 4/5 tunes from Sonic Boom. Are you going to play them during the forthcoming concerts or
they will be part of the next tour set list?

We try many songs in sound checks everyday. As more people purchase Sonic Boom and get
to know the songs we will add some into the show.
One day at a time...

Eric

"AND PARTY EVERY DAY" by LARRY HARRIS - REVIEW

AND PARTY EVERY DAY:
The Inside Story Of Casablanca Records
By Larry Harris
with Curt Gooch and Jeff Suchs
Backbeat Books
$24.99 Hardcover/2009
299 pages +
Special Thanks to Diane Levinson

by J. Frank Hagan
There are many legendary history
making life episodes that took place in the 1970's - the "ME" decade - Sexual revolution, high gas prices, a poor economy, Jimmy Carter and then there was Casablanca Records.

This is the story of two men, cousins,
from New York, employed at Buddah Records set out to start their very own record label.

This is the inside look into one of the greatest record labels of all time, written by co-founder and executive vice president Larry Harris, started the label along with his cousin, the very charismatic Neil Bogart. Together, they built an empire which introduced the world to a new genre of music, disco with Donna Summer, and turned the world onto one of the greatest bands of all time, Kiss.

And Party Every Day takes you back into a time where sex, drugs, rock and roll and even disco were the norm in the record business. At least at the offices of Casablanca. Neil Bogart was a believer, a go-getter who wasn't afraid to take a chance. Signing Kiss to their new label, Larry and Neil were taking big chances and even bigger risks. Harris' writing takes you on that journey of the excitement of starting a new record label and signing new talent that other labels, then, more likely now, would simply pass on. Their logo and likeness, like the movie, is famous the world over.

This was the book I could not put down and actually read twice. Harris makes no bones about his drug use ( and Neil's for that matter ) back in the day. At times right in the offices of Casablanca. There are some funny stories Harris recalls, one with the fantastic George Clinton, who had brought in some uncut, potent cocaine to the office and that anyone willing to try it would start speaking Spanish since it "hadn't cleared customs yet."

Harris' journey takes you through the process of Kiss playing for the Warner Brothers execs, bringing future disco queen Donna Summer from Europe to the US, George Clinton's Parliament, and a creation of one man's dream of five man signing group, the Village People. Casablanca's promotions was a machine, that stopped at nothing as Harris goes into detail, taking it's artists to the top of the heap. Signing artists like Robin Williams, the Hudson Brothers, ANGEL and Cher, Casablanca left no lands undeveloped as the label that took chances and single handed an entire genre of music, disc0. Their successes led them to launch another arm of the company, Casablanca Filmworks, producing the award winning film Midnight Express as well as the Deep, Thank God It's Friday and Foxes. Everything about Casablanca Records and Fimworks was HUGE

Harris, so honestly and lovingly takes you along on his incredible ride with his cousin Neil Bogart, the proud fathers of Casablanca Records. The UPS and DOWNS. The big BIG money. The HUGE
promotion. Their commitment to their artists. The love and passion that was Casablanca Records. Larry Harris left Casablanca in 1979. Neil passed away at age 39 on May 8, 1982.

And Party Every Day: The Inside Story Of Casablanca Records features never-before-published photographs, a complete discography, promotional film and music video guide and a "where are they now?" section. This book is a must read! Now go get yours and start reading!!

BACK WITH A BOOM!

By MICHAEL CHRISTOPHER

Critics who have dismissed modern-day Kiss as nothing but a cartoonish merchandising machine take note: the band has proven that there is some rock and roll left in the tank, and this week celebrates the highest charting release in its history as "Sonic Boom" landed in the No. 2 slot on the Billboard charts.

Rock Music Menu caught up with drummer Eric Singer after the grease-painted foursome played an explosive, career spanning set at the Wachovia Center Monday night and talked about what it is that makes the new album so appealing.

"Everyone knew what the task at hand was," Singer said. "We all got on board in the same vehicle heading down the same road and we knew what are destination was."

Singer joined Kiss in 1991 initially as temporary substitute for drummer Eric Carr, who was battling heart cancer and subsequently passed away later that year. He played on the 1992 record "Revenge," which, like "Sonic Boom," is seen as a touchstone in the band's catalog and a return to form after many had left them for dead."

A friend of mine said, "It's kind of ironic how two of my favorite Kiss albums are two that you played on,'" Singer said. "I'm not gonna take the credit for it, but I do believe that sometimes a certain chemistry with people at a given time contributes a lot to a band's sound and a vibe and an energy and a direction that you may have."

"It's like baking a cake; you can make the same cake over and over, but sometimes it just tastes a little better, especially when people make things from scratch rather than follow exact directions."

To start from scratch, Singer, guitarist Tommy Thayer and Kiss co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons went back to their roots, not to find the sound, but to look for inspiration.

"We weren't trying to make a '70s record," Singer said. "We we're trying to make a record in the spirit of the '70s where a band went in, worked on riffs, and recorded them live. Paul said, "I want to make this record like we did when we started out.'"

"We really created more of a unified sound where everybody contributed, it wasn't like one guy was the main writer and he does everything; we wanted to do everything organically like the way we do live."

PETER CRISS: ORIGINAL KISS DRUMMER CELEBRATES SURVIVING BREAST CANCER

By Madison Park/CNN

(Photo:Noel Webster. Me (Frank Hagan) and Peter in New York at his in-store promoting "ONE FOR ALL", 2007)

(CNN) -- A year after beating breast cancer, Peter Criss, a founding member of the rock band KISS, calls himself "the luckiest man in the planet.

"While some men feel embarrassed because of "this macho crap," Criss said surviving breast cancer -- yes, men get it, too -- was actually a blessing. He was treated before the tumor could spread and said he's speaking about male breast cancer now -- during National Breast Cancer Awareness month -- to raise the profile of this rare disease.

Criss, who played drums for KISS and was known as "Catman," offered this advice to men who spot lumps in their breast: "Don't sit around playing Mr. Tough Guy. Don't say 'It's going to go away.' It might not and you might not see life anymore and how beautiful that is."

The 63-year-old musician is now cancer free.

Like many others, Criss wasn't aware men could get breast cancer.

KISS' SONIC BOOM LANDS IN PHILADLEPHIA

by J. Frank Hagan
What a magical night! Here we are, 2009, a new album of Kiss music, a spectacular tour with a new stage production (not since the 1996 Reunion tour has there been such a grand production in my opinion) that blows others away. It had been five years since Kiss had played the Philadelphia/South Jersey metro area and by the attendance at the Wachovia Center, fans have been waiting anxiously and showed up to see the band that does it like no other band can or ever could.

Kiss exploded onstage to a deafening roar of the crowd with the opener, "Deuce." Kiss delivered the show of shows as they only know how. The band sounded incredibly tight. The sound system was clean and clear. The effects were amazing! My eyebrows are singed off from the flamethrowers which appeared in different colors from orange to red to a light green which was cool (or hot if you will) as hell. You could feel the heat that these throwers send off.

Kiss followed with a collection of songs from the 1975 classic, "KISS ALIVE!" performing "Strutter" to "Parasite" to "She" to "Hotter Than Hell." "Hotter Than Hell" saw Gene breathing fire, a spectacle that never grows tired, and for those seeing it for the first time (as I saw a lot of young fans there in their 20's), a gasp from the crowd followed by a loud cheers. Paul dazzled the crowd with his dancing, running around and vocals of perfection. Paul sounded amazing! Eric's drum solo was a highlight of the evening. Back to using the double-kick bass drum, his solo featured his kit on a turn-table, spinning around to every angle of the arena. But it was not only the visual of Eric's drumming, but his solo itself that was pleasure to the ears. Tommy's solo was a visual as it was pleasing to the ears. The guy has it all. I've come to the conclusion that Tommy is very under underrated as a lead guitarist.

Gene spat blood high a top his perch above the audience before launching into "I Love It Loud," a change than he's done before (with a bell toll added to the PA) going skyward. Paul headed out to the audience for "Love Gun" on a turn-table which gave him a chance to see everyone in the back of the hall.

And the confetti! I've never seen so much confetti in my life! Tons and tons. How much of that stuff they actually go through in one night? It was quite a night. A night I will not soon forget. The Kiss spectacle had come to Philly, assaulted the crowd with sound and visuals, and onward to the next city. Hopefully, Kiss will return to the City of Brotherly Love again real soon!

KISS ALIVE IN PHILADELPHIA

KISS IN PHILADELPHIA

(from Bravewords)

by Mark Gromen

“You wanted best, you’ve got the best…” BOOM! The curtain emblazoned with a silver logo drops to the ground, revealing my (and tens of millions’ the planet over) teen favourites. Through the dry-ice fog, the white & black greasepaint of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were clearly visible, to the rapturous screams and applause of a near capacity Wachovia Center, filled with at least four generations of KISS fans. Right into ‘Deuce’ and ‘Strutter’, a vintage high energy, one-two punch (and part of the ’74 debut, which airs no less then five songs this evening!) punctuated by Simmons wagging tongue and gyrating pelvis, while Stanley flicked/blew picks to the crowd, playing a guitar positioned vertically, inverted and even between his legs. The stage resembled 80s MTV come to life. Flanked by a pair of giant KISS Army banners, a trio of video screens behind drummer Eric Singer (who’s perched atop a lighted “KISS” logo) could show separate close-ups or be combined into a single wall, half a football field long. Smaller, square video With photographers allowed but two songs in which to click away, the mainstay duo got most of the face time, new guitarist Tommy Thayer relegated to those cheering on the sides of the arena.

KISS DELIVERS THE BOOM

by Alan K. Stout- Music Columnist/Weekender
PHILADELPHIA – Legendary rock band KISS brought its hard rock spectacle and “Alive/35 Tour” to the Wachovia Center on Monday, and though some things certainly must have seemed familiar to the KISS faithful, some things have also clearly changed.
And perhaps that’s exactly as it should be.
Great songs? Check.
Dazzling stage show? Check.
Packed house? Check.
Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley flying around the arena? Check.
A good time? Most definitely a check.
But KISS in 2009 is not your father’s KISS, and even if you’re only a 30- or 40-something, not the KISS you saw bump and grind its way through the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s with a fixation on extremely loud amps, sex, sex and sex and a lock-up-your-daughters mentality. Perhaps it’s because Simmons and Stanley are now family men themselves, or perhaps it’s because they see all of those parents in the crowd hoisting their kids on their shoulders to get a better look at them. Whatever the reason, KISS gets it. The band knows its age, knows its audience, and knows what parts of it show to leave behind (lots of f-bombs, tales of sex-capades and onstage strippers) and what to keep (glitzy guitars that shoot rockets, plenty of pyro and a big, bright KISS logo.)
And, of course, they still know how to rock and roll.

NOTE: KISSING the Flyers. The rock band KISS recorded fire-up-the-crowd videos Monday before the group's show at the Wachovia Center. Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer, and Eric Singer did the videos, which will be shown on the scoreboard during Flyers home games.

REKINDLING THE FIRES OF A ROCK ICON

By A.D. Amorosi (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

When you're a member of KISS, you're a demon or a star child from your first cigarette to your last dying day - especially if you're the 36-year-old band's remaining original members, bassist/reality TV star Gene Simmons and guitarist/painter Paul Stanley.

In talking with Stanley, it becomes clear that the passage of time has brought a wealth of subjects to consider. There's the new KISS CD, for example, titled Sonic Boom. But before discussing that, Stanley dwells on the approaching close of elder super-arenas such as the Spectrum, where KISS set many a night aflame. "When I was a kid, those arenas are what I dreamed of playing," he says.

Stanley also jokes about not caring that KISS - never a critics' darling - is finally being considered for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "KISS' hall was the 80 million people buying our albums," he says. "That said, we've had hard-core fans that fought long and hard to get us in, and if we do get in, we're gratified for them.

"Stanley produced Sonic Boom alone ("Democracy is overrated. Besides, someone has to lead the charge") and cowrote this, the band's first new album in 11 years, with longtime partner Simmons.

Both things stem from having sworn off making new music after the band's first reunion album, 1998's Psycho Circus, turned out to be what Stanley deems disastrous. He ascribes much of that failure to personality issues. "There are missteps to making albums when people see the band as ways of furthering themselves rather than the band," he says, obliquely referring to former band members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.

With newer members Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer firmly entrenched and fully versed in the KISS glam-metal ethos, the band set about to make Sonic Boom sound like classics from the 1970s heyday. " 'Love Gun' was certainly one we looked toward," Stanley says of a KISS-centric reference point. "We don't really care about what's trendy now. Just because you can write different music doesn't mean it belongs on a KISS album. Sonic Boom sounds like what KISS should sound like."

KISS and Buckcherry play at 8 p.m. Monday at the Wachovia Center, 3601 S. Broad St. Tickets: $25-$128. Contact: 1-800-298-4200, www.aeglive.com , and www.comcastTIX.com .
