PAUL STANLEY: ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK SINGERS OF ALL TIME

PAUL STANLEY
One of the Greatest Rock Singers of all time-
Tell me something that I don't already know?
In the May issue of Classic Rock on sale now…The Greatest Singers In RockWe’re talking about singers – no screamers, no screechers, no foghorn-voiced frontmen. Over 20 pages we look at the best rock singers ever to have drawn breath and then let it out to such stunning effect.
PAUL STANLEY
"KISS' show was amazing, but I think the fact that their show was so spectacular often caused you to overlook how good Paul's voice was." - Billy SquierA consummate hard-rock vocalist, over four glorious decades Paul Stanley has carved out his rightful place among rock's Mount Rushmore of singers. Combining primal power and passion with the brimstone fury of an evangelical preacher, Stanley's multi-octave voice electrified such KISS classics as "Love Gun", "Detroit Rock City", and "Strutter". His remarkable vocal virtuosity is a hallmark of the KISS canon and his stylistic range is impressive: ballsy rock ("Got to Choose"), rock anthems ("Flaming Youth"), Zeppelin-style metal ("Makin' Love"), disco ("I Was Made for Lovin' You"), power pop ("Tomorrow"), R&B ("Easy As It Seems"), grunge ("It Never Goes Away"), operatic pop ("Just A Boy") and acoustic balladry ("Everytime I Look At You").

ACE FREHLEY BENEFIT SHOW REVIEW

ACE FREHLEY CONCERT REVIEW
(written by Christopher Allin/courtesy Kiss Asylum)
Ace Frehley was second on the bill last night in Boston, MA., for the benefit concert held each year for the RIGHT TURN drug and alcohol treatment organization. Although the event was headlined by Alice Cooper (27 years sober), it was just as clearly an Ace crowd. On Saturday, in a second location in Cambridge (right near Harvard University) Ace, Alice, and the other members of the SUPERGROUP backing band rehearsed for three hours. Lucky radio station winners watched an hour of it, and received autographs from everyone.Frehley brought the Berkelee Performing Arts Center audience to their feet yesterday as he played through a hot set of his KISS classics -- opening with NEW YORK GROOVE, then explaining his near death experience which inspired SHOCK ME, then saying, "I know this (concert) is for recovery, but everyone always wants to hear this song." Ace then brought loud cheers when he remarked that "I don't drink anymore." Of course the next song was COLD GIN, complete with the guitar hero poses Ace first made famous on the cover of KISS ALIVE! in 1975. Ace was in Boston to help raise money for RIGHT TURN, a drug and acohol recovery program founded by Del Fuegos drummer Woody Giessmann. RIGHT TURN is oriented towards performers of all kinds -- musicians, comics, etc. Next year RIGHT TURN plans on going nationwide, opening treatment facilities in Nashville, New York City, and Los Angeles, to complement their Boston office. Go to rightturn.cmarket.com/SUPERGROUP for an auction with autographed collectibles, including some signed by Ace himself. One item up for bid until May 4th is a guitar signed by all the performers from last night. All proceeds benefit RIGHT TURN's recovery efforts.Ace looked great, with metalic nail polish which perfectly matched his blue guitar, dark sunglasses, black T-shirt, and leather pants. The Biker look works very well for Ace (much better than for Gene during the Revenge era). Taped to his mike stand were glow-in-the-dark 'city picks' left over from the 2000 Farewell Tour (My brother caught one from Ace with LONG ISLAND printed on it, then later got one from guitarist Ricky Bird with EVANSVILLE, IN printed on back). After Ace's songs, Alice Cooper came out, sounding great, even though his voice was mixed a bit low. It's quite a treat to hear Cooper sing BROWN SUGAR as well as all his own classics. For the encore, all the musicians who played that evening came out on stage to sing ROCK N' ROLL ALL NIGHT; but first Alice emceed everyone singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ace, complete with candles on a cake, to a smiling and slightly embarrased Frehley. It was a great evening, ending with Ace shaking hands with everyone in the front of the stage, which swelled considerably after he returned for the encore.
Stay tuned to http://www.acefrehley.com/home/ for photos and videos coming soon of the event.

PAUL STANLEY AIDING AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS WITH

(Courtesy:Kiss Army Australia)
PAUL STANLEY RAISING BIG MONEY FOR THE AUSSIE RED CROSS WITH HIS OWN SIGNATURE WINE. PAUL STANLEY is not only THE front-man 0f rock and roll, an accomplished painter, he also a Class A HUMANITARIAN. Please read...
Paul Stanley of rock band KISS fame will donate the first wines exclusively bottled for his new "Paul Stanley Collection" Wine Series to be auctioned simultaneously in Melbourne and Sydney on 30 May to raise funds for vital Red Cross services.
Paul Stanley, currently in studio creating the latest KISS album, but also spending much of his time painting art, has now developed his own business painting and selling his art. Paul Stanley original paintings sell in excess of US$60,000 a piece to collectors and KISS fans alike.
Paul has been working with friend and fellow wine lover Andrew Roper on the creation of his own wine for the US market, and as he was saddened by the recent Victorian bushfires, he suggested that the first wines out of the barrels (made exclusively for his own brand to be released in the USA in 2010), be donated to Red Cross, whose work includes helping people during emergencies.
In addition to the wines, Paul has also donated the original artwork for the label to be auctioned with the wines.

Andrew Roper of "Wines To The Stars" (Wine Marketing & Wine Introduction to the stars), suggested this could be a unique way of helping people in need through Red Cross, and has co-ordinated the wine, bottling and labelling for the limited and specially handcrafted large format bottles. Roper said: "We have decided to offer something unique, that will capture the imagination of bidders. We are in fact presenting the opportunity to bid for wines that are "one off bottles" and extremely rare and collectable. Also the added opportunity to own a piece of art history, a real genuine showpiece to hang in their home, office or where ever they desire. It is Paul's and our wish that we can raise as much as possible for this very special charity and Paul has personally signed each of the labels as well as the original painting. These wines will be fantastic collectables for years to come. It is only fitting that we use the international and popular status of Paul Stanley as well as one of Australia's great boutique wine producers, to create interest to attract bidders to raise as much as we can.. The Paul Stanley Collection wines will be only available in exclusive restaurants and casinos in the USA.
Wine company, Kaesler Wines of Barossa Valley, South Australia, has for years impressed the American and International Critics with high rated boutique Barossa wines, and has been selected to produce the wines for Paul's exclusive wine brand. Wine Maker and owner, Reid Bosward has combined with Wines To The Stars and Paul Stanley by way of donating the small batch limited wines and bottles. Bosward stated today: "As we are producing the wines for Paul's future label, we are only too pleased to offer our winemaking expertise and assistance to help raise funds for people in need.

The Paul Stanley Collection Wines will be an exclusive production of only a hundred or so cases, and the wines will be some of the best ever produced from the Barossa Valley. These wines are made for the long term, and being bottled in the large format bottles, will keep for well over 20-30 years. The Paul Stanley Collection will be made only if the vintage is perfect, he is a perfectionist with all he does, and we have shown that we too strive to this elite level."

Barossa PrintMasters has also joined the team by way of donating its professional services for the co-ordination, graphic design and printing of the labels. Cork Supply Australia, based in Adelaide, has generously donated the special sized corks required to fit the bottles. KISS' MEDIA STORM WITH FIRST FAN-ROUTED TOUR

Fan Votes at Eventful to Determine U.S. and Canadian Cities Where Legendary Rockers KISS Will Perform on 2009 Tour
Sao Paulo, Brazil (April 6, 2009) - KISS is celebrating 35 years of rockin' the world like no other band has ever done before. The legendary band, currently touring soccer stadiums of South America, announced from Brazil today that their upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour will be the world's first to put fans in charge of where their favorite artist plays. By partnering with Eventful, the leading social media company for events, fans will "Demand" where KISS will perform on their latest trek across the top-voted North American markets beginning this September. No matter where the fans say--from stadiums to cornfields--if there are enough votes, KISS will be there! And in order to keep the competition fair for smaller cities, final site selection will weigh population size versus total votes.

Today at the zero hour of exactly 3:00 PM EDT, an official video announcement by the band's Paul Stanley, Eric Singer, Tommy Thayer and Gene Simmons (see video at www.KISSonline.com) kicks off this first-ever promotion. Immediately following the video's debut run, fans across the U.S. and Canada can cast their votes at www.eventful.com/KISS to have their town included on the KISS 2009 North American tour. Fans will b e able to vote, and check the tally of what cities are in the lead, 24/7 across the Web at the previous sites; as well as on KISS' MySpace and Facebook, Ticketmaster's KISS page, VH1Classic.com, and many more.

Even after garnering more than 30 gold and platinum records and in excess of 90 million albums sold worldwide, KISS continues to prove the band makes the fans their #1 priority."KISS has never followed the rules--we have always broken them. KISS has never listened to critics-we have always listened only to the fans," said Gene Simmons. "It's time to give back to the fans with bigger shows and longer set lists. And for the first time anywhere, we want our fans to tell us where they want us, and when."Said Paul Stanley, "No band has ever given their fans the power to decide what cities they play, and no fans deserve it more than ours. We're leaving the next U.S. and Canadian tour up to the Army. When they stand up, they will be counted!"

Just for voting for their town, all KISS fans will have the opportunity to purchase pre-sale tickets prior to the general on-sale. In addition to joining in on the major campaigns launched by rock radio in each city, fans are also incentivized to create their own viral videos online, motivating their fellow residents to participate in casting votes for a KISS show in their city. City-specific "best-of" compilation reels of these videos will be shown on jumbo scr eens at venues before each concert. On this upcoming tour, fans will be treated to a set of some of rock's greatest hits, including "Rock and Roll All Nite," "I Was Made for Lovin' You," "Detroit Rock City," "God Gave Rock & Roll to You" and "Shout It Out Loud," among many others. The band is currently recording its first new studio album in 11 years (produced by Paul Stanley).

UPDATE ON KISS FAN CRITTER

UPDATE ON CRITTER
(from KISSONLINE.net)
Here's an update on our friend Christopher "Critter" Smith. Critter is an 11-year-old KISS fan who's battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells. Since we introduced you to Critter last month, KOL has received hundreds of emails from around the world asking for an update on how he is doing.
Here's a note from Critter's mom, Carol:
"Critter is heading home tomorrow from the hospital for about a week, if we're lucky! Only because we need his test result from the next Bone Marrow Aspiration in order to start the next round of chemo that will decide which kind of chemo and how aggressive the next round will be. Things have been going well besides one scare with his blood pressure. We finally got that under control and now everything seems to be going pretty well! He still seems to be responding to the chemo, from what we can tell. We'll find out more about that from the Aspiration."
"Critter's just thrilled and counting down the days until he will meet KISS!"
Critter's mother also told us how much his spirits were lifted after hearing from Paul and Eric. With that in mind, if any members of the KISS Army would like to send a note or card to Critter, we're sure it would be well received!

BOOK ABOUT THE KISS FANZINE PHENOMENOM PLANNED

The KISS Fanzine Phenomenom will be examined in a new book planned by Ken Sharp. Sharp who penned, KISS the Early Years and Behind the Mask as well as many articles for Goldmine Magazine, is currently seeking submissions from publishers and editors of KISS Fanzines. At it's height in the late 80s and early 90s, over 30+ Kiss fan magazines were in circulation, from all points all over the world in several different languages. This led to the first KISS Fanzine party (THE ROCK AND ROLL ALL NIGHTER), where every fanzine was represented, converging on the Meadowlands for a show in New Jersey on the HOT IN THE SHADE tour. I am proud to have had been involved in the planning of the event which literally was an all nighter!
If you had published a Kiss Fanzine, email Ken at sharpk@aol.com. You may also check out the full article up on KISSONLINE here http://www.kissonline.net/index.php

KISS IN POLLSTAR

KISS Fans To Decide Routing
(www.pollstar.com)
Posted on Monday April 6, 2009 at 09:06 AM
This year marks 35 years since KISS unleashed Gene Simmons’ tongue on an unsuspecting world, and now you have a chance to bring the costumed rock ‘n’ roll crusaders to your town in the first-ever “fan-routed” tour.

To accomplish this bit of KISS derring do, the band has partnered with social media company Eventful to make fans’ dreams a reality come September.
According to a statement released by the band:
“No matter where the fans say – from stadiums to cornfields – if there are enough votes, KISS will be there!”
Furthermore, the balloting will be weighted to give small towns a fair chance with the final site determined by population size versus total votes.
Simmons, along with Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer, will make an official announcement in a video scheduled to appear on KISS Online at 3 p.m. today Eastern Daylight Time (high noon on the West Coast). Immediately following the announcement, fans will be able to cast their votes at Eventful.com to determine where KISS will play in the U.S. and Canada.
Plus, just for voting, fans will have an opportunity to purchase pre-sale tickets prior to the general onsale. That is, as soon as the band figures out where the fans want them to play. As an added incentive, fans are also encouraged to create their own viral KISS vids online, with the best of the best being shown in individual towns and cities each night before the band takes the stage.
“KISS has never followed the rules – we have always broken them. KISS has never listened to critics – we have always listened only to the fans,” Simmons said. “It’s time to give back to the fans with bigger shows and longer set lists. And for the first time anywhere, we want our fans to tell us where they want us, and when.”

City-specific "best-of" compilation reels of these videos will be shown on jumbo screens at venues before each concert.

KISS' SANTIAGO SHOW IN REVIEW

KISS SLAY CHILE!

(Photo & Report Courtesy of KISSONLINE)

KISS ARMY CHILE ALIVE & WELL!
Another great KISS review from Chile! This one's from Revolver Magazine.
Legendary rock band KISS and its face-painted, platform stomping, ear pounding, flame throwing extravaganza lit up the sold-out Estadio Municipal de La Florida in Santiago Friday night with the loudest, brightest and hottest concert of the festival. KISS' first performance in Chile since 1997 featured a barrage of pyrotechnics, confetti, fireworks and amplifiers that left nothing to be desired by any card-carrying, flag waving, air-guitar playing, tongue wagging KISS Army member.

PETER CRISS AT CHILLER EXPO

PETER CRISS AT CHILLER APRIL 17-19, 2009

To be held at the Hilton in Parsippany, New Jersey and according to his web-site, http://www.petercriss.net/ , his signing fee per autograph is $40.00 and photos taken by his own photographer will be charged $10.00. These type of events has every guest who appears charging their own set fee for signings. In a tough economy, I feel these fees are a bit to steep. But that's my opinion. For more information, go to Peter's site at http://www.petercriss.net/.

NEW COSTUMES FOR NEW KISS ALBUM?

New KISS costumes on the way? That's what KISS Manager Doc McGhee is telling fans in Santiago, Chile. Stay tuned for more reports, photos and set-lists as KISS begin their South American tour tonite in Santiago.

TOMMY CHECKS IN TO KOL FROM CHILE

TOMMY CHECKS IN!
(VIA KISSONLINE.NET)
Let's get this show on the road!!!

Rehearsals end and it's showtime.

Like everything else in the world of Rock & Roll, everything planned can change in a minute.

Okay...this was the plan. The four of us, Doc, Danny (our security chief, for those of you just joining us) and new tour manager Mike would fly commercial to Miami and where we would hop aboard our jet for the 9 hour flight down to Santiago. Paul and I meet up at LAX, the international airport here in sunny Los Angeles. With every medicine known to man for any and all calamities in his bag, a rolling suitcase, huge sunglasses and a passport stuffed with visas and permits from all the other world tours in his hand, Paul looks like some sort of incognito rock star crossed with a pack mule.

But where is Gene??Well, it turns out he had written his car pick-up time down wrong and wasn't going to make the flight, so the tour already is "business as usual"! I was surprised though, because that kind of stuff never happens with Gene. Eric showed up late, but in time to make the flight. He LOVES watches. Maybe he should look at it. Gene will fly commercial on a later flight with our assistant road manager "Dependable" Dean and meet us in Santiago.

About four hours later, we land in Miami and make our way to the private aviation terminal where our flight crew and flight attendant watch as the KISS jet is being stuffed and stocked with dinner, drinks and amenities for our next journey. A great dinner and a short stop for fuel Panama City, we all hunkered down for six hours of solid sleep on our way to Chile.

Just at daybreak we touched down into the Santiago sunshine. The ride to the hotel seems as long as the flight. Maybe because we're all hungry and talking about breakfast at the hotel. We'll rest today and Eric will walk the city. He IS the Energizer Bunny! Tomorrow (Friday) we start the South American leg of the KISS Alive/35 World tour at the sold-out Estadio Municipal de la Florida Stadium in Santiago, Chile. I'll get back to ya!
