A Fundraiser with a little KISS

With one of the beneficiaries of the Yamhill County Association of Realtors Annual Charity Auction being the Janet Dumdi Comfort Fund, founded in memory of her mother, Beth Jacobson thought it was time to enlist the help of a cousin.
And not just any cousin, mind you. The cousin she had in mind was Tommy Thayer, lead guitarist in the rock band KISS.

Known for his philanthropy, Thayer came through with several pieces of memorabilia. The cache includes a drum head, guitar strap and various photos, many signed either by him alone or by the entire band.

Despite their image — the bandsmen feature white and black face paint and flamboyant stage outfits — Jacobson describes them as “family guys” who are very “down to earth” in their everyday lives. So the gesture is not unusual for them.

The event is set to get under way at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, with a silent auction. To be held at the Golden Valley Brewery, 980 N.E. Fourth St., it will continue with an oral auction at 6:30 p.m.

Paul Stanley On Rock and Rolling All Night and Partying Every Day

  Brian Lowe/LA WEEKLY
KISS PC Brian Lowe 2.jpg

Talking to Paul Stanley of Kiss on the phone is one thing. Talking to him in person in full Starchild regalia -- as we did the other day in New York -- is something else entirely. For one thing, he's huuuuge. It's not just the eight-inch boots; his hair is giant, too. Perched on a stool with his arms folded and muscles bulging, he looks youthful. (The makeup helps.) But he talks with the sageness you'd expect from a 60-year-old who's been a rock star for almost four decades. See also: *Paul Stanley Analyzes KISS's Success: "I don't want to buy a t-shirt with a guy on it who looks like my neighbor." *Kiss Has a New Book That's Three Feet Tall and Costs Over $4000 This week Kiss released their 20th studio album, Monster. Though the band is based in L.A., they were in NY promoting the record on SiriusXM. We spoke with him about the importance of not showing up to work drunk, and other topics.

Did you always see yourself not only as someone who would be doing music but also as someone who would be wearing this?

Well, I've worn this for more of my life than I haven't. You think you've spent more hours in it than out of it? Oh, yeah. Well, I've certainly spent more years in it than out of it. I'm a lucky guy. I get a chance to live my dream every day. And certainly I would hope that other people pursue the same thing. If you have a dream, you go after it. It's very easy to find people who tell you what's impossible. Invariably, the ones who tell you what's impossible are the ones who failed. So, I'm here because I didn't listen. And if somebody finds talk of self-empowerment corny, well, they should look where they are and look where I am.

Do you still hold fast to that "rock and roll all night and party every day" credo, at this point in your life?

I think that's a state of mind. It's an attitude more than the tangible of partying every day or rock-and-rolling all night. It's more a mindset of enjoying your life. It's not literal. See also: I go and see Kiss and Morrissey on the same night It's not? I don't think it ever was literal-- Oh, come on! Well, you can rock and roll all night and party every day. But it's more the sense that life is for enjoying...We sing about very basic instincts and things that are truly timeless, and that's about self. Self-reliance and self-celebration. Pride in self. That's what it all comes down to. It all starts with you. We were watching the infamous Tom Snyder interview [with KISS in 1979 that got derailed by Ace Frehley's drunken goofiness] and were wondering what was going through your mind at that time. It looks like it was fun, but it also looks like Gene was not so happy about it.

You Want to Hear Two Morons Interview PAUL STANLEY & TOMMY THAYER?

You want to hear two idiot so called Dj's not doing thier job? Normally I wouldn't give this show of disrespect any press, but the world can hear just how idiotic morning show guys, who should not be on radio (and have no regard for the fans that had been waiting to hear Paul and Tommy's interview) were when Paul and Tommy called into a Houston radio show. Paul tried to make the best of it, but does not take any crap, and I can tell by Tommy's voice,he was not happy and how this was going. Paul and Tommy handled themselves like men, where as the "dj's acted like little children and hung up on them.

Steven Tyler calls KISS ' A Comic Rock Band'

by: Billy Dukes/Ultimate Classic Rock

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry didn’t mince words when asked about Kiss in a recent radio interview. Tyler admitted he never cared for his counterpart’s music after calling them “a comic book rock band.” With Gene Simmons and company also doing media rounds to promote a new album, one expects Tyler’s comments are only the beginning of an entertaining back-and-forth.

They’ve got a couple of hits, but they’re more the comic book — you see them in their speckled faces,” Tyler added while talking to the Cowhead Show on Tampa, Fla. rock station WHPT in an interview that aired Wednesday. “I remember when we went out with Kiss in ’76 or something, one of our roadies got into a knife fight with their guys. So I hated them ever since.”

KISS at SiriusXM's TOWN HALL EVENT

Photo for Kissonline by Hab Haddad

Just got back from New York at the SiriusXM Town Hall with KISS! I am in the front row, third person in. KISS was fantastic! We had a great time. Thank you to KISS and the wonderful staff  at SiriusXM. They made us all feel at home at this wonderfully organized event.
I will never forget this once in a lifetime event. Gene, Paul, Eric and Tommy were so cool and into the questions we asked. But of course they were, they are KISS!
Thank you to Kiss, SiriusXM and Jennifer.
