Army veteran lives dream as KISS roadie

My Fox Pheonix FOX 10 News - Phoenix, AZ | KSAZ-TV PHOENIX - They are one of the biggest rock bands in history, and certainly the most recognizable. Friday night, KISS mania took over the valley. KISS together with Motley Crew hit the stage out in west Phoenix, at the Ashley Home Store Furniture Pavilion. It's part of the "biggest, baddest rock tour." But there's someone very special traveling with them on the tour. His name is Paul Jordon, and he's one of the roadies. His job is to set up and break down equipment. But he's no ordinary roadie. Jordon is a hero, a military veteran who was given the unique opportunity to go out on tour with KISS. KISS teamed up with US Chamber of Commerce on an initiative called "Hiring Our Heroes." The goal is to get more employers to hire veterans

Eddie Kramer Talks Kiss in Jimmy Page Interview

EDDIE KRAMER
Here's an excerpt from an Interview with the legendary Eddie Kramer by FindingZoso.com 's Discovering The Music of Jimmy Page.  Here Eddie talks about Kiss. This full interview with Eddie is well worth checking out if you want some classic rock and roll history!

FZ: You were at Woodstock, and recorded the festival, you recorded Led Zeppelin for “The Song Remains the Same”, you recorded Kiss “Alive”. What about live recordings do you think is so unique, what are some of the challenges?
EK: You could also add Peter Frampton
FZ: That’s right “Frampton Comes Alive” yes.
EK: I love live recording. For me it was very exciting. You get one shot and that’s it [laughs] or sometimes two depending upon if you are going to do multiple nights then you can cut together the best performances. Same thing with Kiss, you know? This is a challenge. You have a band like Kiss who onstage with the fireworks and the bombs and all that stuff going off, it’s a show, and it’s tough for them to be in tune and in time, so for me that was a challenge. So we ended up afterward cutting the live performances and overdubbing a lot of material to make it work. But hey listen, that record saved Casablanca Records, they were going under and Kiss saved the day. That double album became a huge seller.

Please check out the entire interview! Eddie talks about enginnering the greatest Led Zeppelin albums and working with Jimmy Page, as an artist and producer and Jimi Hendrix. Awesomeness!

KISS: The Infamous Creem Magazine Photo Shoot 1975

Photo
FLASHBACK 1975:
The editors of Creem Magazine convinced KISS that then manager Bill Aucoin had called and said the band should take photos, in and out of makeup for their 'Boy Howdy" shoot. The problem was Bill had never called Creem and authorized a shoot without makeup. The "unmasking" really didn't hurt the KISS mystique as people were unsure if indeed was really KISS. Of course there were some fans that realized it was KISS, first time seen without the makeup.

ENDLESS KISS? PAUL STANLEY Rules Out Reunion

Paul Stanley on Reunion with Peter and Ace? "Never!"
Written by George Varga/UtSanDiego

Kiss, with Mötley Crüe and The Treatment

When: 5:30 p.m. Sunday
Where: Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista
Tickets: $46.50-$183 (includes service charges)
Phone: (800) 745-3000

UtsSanDiegoThe Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger and Keith Richards? Unthinkable.
Metallica without James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich? Ditto.
But Kiss without Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, who co-founded the larger-than-life band in 1973 and have co-led a dozen different lineups since then? Not a problem.

“The band is bigger than its members,” said Stanley, who performs Sunday with Kiss at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre. “And it only takes, in this case, four like-minded people with a similar outlook and talent to further the cause and continue Kiss. It makes perfect sense to me. It may not make sense to other bands, but we’re not other bands. We don’t live by those rules. We never have.”
Might Stanley (born: Paul Stanley Eisen) be concerned that he and Simmons (born Chaim Witz), both 62, are growing too old to rock ’n’ roll all night?

“I’m damn good at what I do,” the singer and guitarist said, speaking from a tour stop in San Antonio. “But do I think I’m the only person capable of doing what I do? Absolutely not. I’m not talking about a clone (of me), but somebody with the same passion, drive and love for the music I love. So, can I envision a time when I won’t be here anymore? Absolutely. It’s not tomorrow, or next week. But when it happens, I would be celebratory. Because it would prove that I was right and that Kiss is exactly what I believe it is: an ideal, a way of performing, a point of view. It’s an attitude, and the respect and love (we have for) our audience.”

Attitude — and lots of fire-breathing chutzpah, literally and figuratively — have been key components of Kiss for the past four decades.

During that time the New York-bred band has sold close to 100 million albums worldwide and scored such hard-rocking hits as “Shout It Out Loud” and “Calling Dr. Love.” The group, which refers to its fans as the “Kiss Army,” has also inspired everyone from Garth Brooks and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails to former San Diegans Matt Cameron and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam.

KISS Gives To Colorado Theater Shooting Victims

The bands said at their concert in suburban Denver on Wednesday night that they would donate $100,000 to the Aurora Victim Relief Fund.

The fund was set up to help victims and families who were hurt when a man opened fire July 20 at a midnight showing of the new Batman movie in Aurora. Twelve people were killed, and 58 were injured.

Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue and Paul Stanley of Kiss said in a written statement that they hope their gesture will encourage others to give.

KISS, Motley Crue at Comfort Dental Amphitheatre, 8/8/12 (photos and review)

By /HeyReverb
After four decades as a band, the things about a KISS concert that stick are those you might imagine. KISS has released some of the most significant collections of live material (non-bootlegs) in rock — which means just about everyone on the planet has experienced KISS “live” in one way or another. The real deal, though, is incomparable.

I finally caught that real thing Wednesday night at Comfort Dental Amphitheatre, and I can tell you that the iconic foursome, indisputably, still brings it.

From the laser-bottlerockets and bazooka fire that spaceman Tommy Thayer and feline percussionist Eric Singer exchanged, to the demonic blood-vomiting and fire-spewing of Gene Simmons, the show offered everything a fan could want. Of course, Paul Stanley played the consummate frontman in the style he damn-near originated, constantly throwing out call and response challenges in that familiar New York accent.

KISS stuck with a comforting selection of classics, starting with “Detroit Rock City” and “Shout It Out Loud” in quick succession. Stanley mentioned old McNichols Arena shows – showing the band’s age – before jumping into “Love Gun,” with a zipline transport to a raised platform in the middle of the crowd. They filled out the set with “Shock Me,” “God of Thunder,” “Lick It Up” and a brilliant version of “Black Diamond” before an encore featuring the mega hit “Rock ‘N Roll All Nite.”

A wavering performance by Motley Crue paved the way for KISS. Led by an under-impressed Vince Neil, the band phoned in an insipid, maybe marginally adequate performance, despite pyrotechnics and a roller coaster drum setup. The fact that the has-been foursome and ridiculous go-go girls had to compete with the setting sun might have justified the laziness. But this band’s complete lack of moxie made it all but impossible to attribute its vapidity to anything but a lack of present day significance and little talent.

KISS setlist:
Detroit Rock City
Shout It Out Loud
I Love It Loud
Firehouse
Love Gun
War machine
Shock Me
Hell or Halleluja
God of Thunder
Lick It Up
Black Diamond
Encore:
Rock’N Roll All Nite
