Who Thinks Kiss Should Be in the Hall of Fame? Kiss, For One

With the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2012 induction ceremony coming up in April, one of the stars of the rock band Kiss says he continues to be perplexed by the fact that his band has yet to be voted in.
Kiss lead singer and guitarist Paul Stanley said he considers the fact that Kiss hasn’t made it, despite the fact that the band has been eligible since 1999, a slight to the band’s fans. “I know that it’s important to a lot of the fans. Certainly if we were to get inducted, I would accept it on behalf of the fans, because it matters to them,” Stanley said. “But I don’t need validation from an organization where I don’t even know who is doing the voting.”
Stanley’s comments follow an on-camera interview he gave the WSJ earlier this year in which he spoke candidly about the group’s entrepreneurial success. Kiss and Motley Crue members recently announced a joint summer tour at a press conference. Kiss bassist Gene Simmons told Rolling Stone at the conference that Kiss’ absence from the Hall of Fame has “become a joke.”
Stanley told the WSJ that he believes the Hall of Fame judges have intentionally excluded Kiss.

The vet who gets picked will be part of the team that assembles the KISS stage set, helps run effects during the show and takes down the set afterwards.
The gig involves traveling with the band from July 14 through Sept. 25 as they tour with Motley Crue.
Applicants do not need to be a trained carpenter, but will work long hours, the announcement says.

Kiss fan retools bathroom in band's honor
There are legions of followers of the 1970s-era glam rock-and-roll band KISS.
And then there is Rick Hoffman.
You can call Hoffman, a longtime Canton resident, a fan, but that would be an
understatement at best. He is, in his very own words, “the number one KISS fan in the world.”
In fact, Hoffman is such a KISS enthusiast that he has devoted a room in his house to the band. He decorated and customized the room: a half-bath on the first floor of his home that has become a shrine to KISS lead singer Gene Simmons and his band mates. It is a sight to behold, complete with a special-order black sink, black toilet and, of course, black light.
However, the black light is not the only light in the room. The bathroom features multiple lighting options including a red light and a regular overhead light as well as customized murals and specially designed handmade plaques featuring busts of KISS band members.
And that is only the beginning.

Kiss's Gene Simmons: 'The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke'

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the long-tongued musician told Billboard that he felt the annual ceremony had damaged its own integrity by inducting non-rock artists such as Madonna and Blondie.
Asked whether Kiss would accept an invitation to join the Hall Of Fame, he replied:
"It's become a joke… We've been thinking about it and the answer is simply, 'We'll just buy it and fire everybody'. In all seriousness for the fans, for something to be called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is such an insult to Madonna, Blondie and Tone Loc.
He continued: "Who the fuck knows what other disco act is in there? It's an insult to them because they don't get to be in the 'Dance Hall of Fame', because that's what they do. They're legitimate dance, disco artists. They don't belong in rock and roll."
Kiss singer Paul Stanley also weighed in with his own criticism of the Hall Of Fame, adding: "With all due respect, when you get to Patti Smith you're about two steps away from Pete Seeger."
The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame hasn't been the only target of Simmons' anger recently – last week (March 21), he branded Rihanna a "fake" and said he was tired of the "bullshit" of stadium-filling pop acts.
Guns N' Roses are set to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at this year's ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio on April 14. The band's classic line-up have confirmed they will all attend the bash, but both Slash and Duff MacKagan have since confirmed that they will all be simply attending and not performing.

Ted Nugent once said he wanted to buy Muzak for $10 million in order to shut it down, since it represented everything “uncool” about music. Now, Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has similar feelings towards the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band has been eligible for induction into the music institution since 1999, but they’ve yet to be voted in. You can bet that Simmons’ feathers are ruffled by their continued exclusion from the HOF.
At Tuesday’s (March 20) press conference in Los Angeles announcing the epic co-headlining tour that Kiss will embark upon with Motley Crue, Simmons addressed the fact that they’ve been dissed by the Hall for 13 years.
“It’s become a joke,” he told Rolling Stone. “We’ve been thinking about it and the answer is simply, ‘We’ll just buy it and fire everybody.’”

"Massive" 3 Month US Summer Tour expected to be the "Tour of the summer!" Tour begins on July 19, 2012 "Somewhere" on the east coast. KISS touring to support the 20th studio album, MONSTER, compared to the work of Destroyer and Revenge is expected to be release in June.
KISS took Motley Crue on their first tour outside of California (Kiss Manager Doc McGhee eventually became Motley's manager) on the Creatures of the Night/10th Anniversary Tour in 1982. 30 years later, they are together again.

Kiss, the Black Keys and Jimmy Buffett are slated to perform free concerts in Woldenberg Park along the Mississippi River in downtown New Orleans the weekend of the NCAA Men's Final Four. The concerts are part of a full slate of festivities throughout the college men's basketball championship weekend.
Veteran hard rock group Kiss will kick off "The Big Dance Concert Series" on Friday, March 30. The band last performed in New Orleans during the 2009 Voodoo Experience in City Park. Expect a set heavy on such favorites as “Rock ‘n’ Roll All Night,” “Detroit Rock City” and “Calling Dr. Love.”

KISStory: On this day, 1975, 'Dressed To Kill' is Released
DRESSED TO KILLKISS' 3rd studio was released on this day, March 19, 1975. The album spawned two singles, C'mon & Love Me and Rock And Roll All Nite. The latter became Kiss' biggest anthem to date, played at every show around the world. The album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City with Casablanca Records President Neil Bogart manning the production helm.
It peaked at number 32 on the Billboard charts and was certified Gold by the RIAA on February 28, 1977.
Rock And Roll All Nite peaked at #68 on the Billboard singles chart.

While BackstageAxxess.com took part in the recent opening of the Monster Mini Golf in Las Vegas, we chatted with Kiss legend Paul Stanley about the bands new venture. We also talked about the upcoming tour (It will be with Motley Crue even though Paul couldn't officially confirm it at the time.) In addition, we also chatted about how the new CD "Monster" will be sold and a couple of other things Kiss.

Paul wouldn't confirm a tour with Motley Crue, but said the US tour will be 40 cities. The album MONSTER will not be released by one retail only, ala Wal-Mart, will be available through "accepted channels." The band has not decided which song to release as a single. The tour will start July 19.

The never ending change in release dates continues for the anticipated 35th Anniversary KISS Destroyer 2-Disc Deluxe Edition. The release date has been moved to April 17, 2012.
The CD(s) will include remixes and outakes as well as the original artwork by Ken Kelly that was rejected by Casablanca Records for being to violent.

Tommy Thayer is the lone golfer in KISS. He’s an 11 handicap, very good for any amateur player, and excellent for any rock guitarist.
But even Thayer is lost as to where to place his ball for the first-ever shot on the glow-in-the-dark, 18-hole KISS By Monster Mini Golf miniature golf course.“I think you put it there, in the middle,” says Jay Beckman, the director of golf at Southern Highlands, who is joining Thayer in a quick three-hole competition on holes 16, 17 and 18.
Beckman then points to a pad on the ground reading “16,” inlaid with three ball-sized indentations. He says to Thayer, “Try there, I think.”
Neither player knows where the hole is positioned, which is somewhere on the other side of the giant guitar placed a few feet in front of that pad. There is indeed a hole, painted day-glow orange, at the exit of the big instrument. The idea is to putt the ball through the mouth of the guitar … and hope for the best.
Thayer strikes the ball firmly. It vanishes in the darkened recesses of the guitar. Everyone looks at each other, then we hear the unmistakable “plunk” of a golf ball dropping into a cup.
“Hole in one?” Thayer asks. The astonished group of onlookers nods energetically.
“Wow!” Beckman says.
Longtime KISS fans will find it appropriate that the first shot at the KISS-themed golf attraction was indeed an ace, recorded by the band’s current Spaceman.
Thayer winds up taking Beckman, who oversees the course Thayer usually plays on his visits to Las Vegas, by two strokes over three holes — Beckman needed two shots just to cover the lengthy Gene Simmons tongue on the 18th and closing hole. That’s how it started Thursday afternoon at a crammed-with-VIPs opening event at KISS By Monster Mini golf.
“I don’t take my golf as seriously as my music,” Thayer says upon finishing his abbreviated round. “Even the pros know not to take the game too seriously. If you do, you’re in trouble because no one ever masters golf.”

LAS VEGAS - Tribute bands performed in the parking lot during the grand opening of KISS by Monster Mini Golf Thursday night. Fans came to celebrate one of the most influential bands in the history of rock 'n' roll.
The legends appeared before the cameras at a black carpet event outside. Inside, fans got a first peak at the glow-in-the-dark, 18-hole miniature golf course.
"I'm actually the only real golfer in the band, but we're all mini golfers though, especially Monster Mini Golf by KISS," said KISS member Tommy Thayer.
"I also get a hole-in-one," KISS co-founder Gene Simmons said.
Other miniature golf courses require you hit the ball through a windmill. The obstacles in this course are much different. This course is cutting-edge.
"I did alright. I missed that Gene Simmons' tongue though," said golfer Michael Fowler.
"If you are going to do something cool, and you want to kick it up a notch, it just seemed natural to call it KISS," said Monster Mini Golf-North America founder Christina Vitagliano.
Following KISS' press conference, 8 News NOW was the only station invited to talk one-on-one with rock legend and KISS co-founder Paul Stanley.
"Who better than KISS? It's iconic. It's larger than life," Stanley said. "It's great to hit a ball through a windmill, but wouldn't you rather hit it through one of my boots, especially with the black lights and everything glowing? It's very, very cool."
Brittany Yocum and Vanessa Krebs played a quick game on the custom-designed course.
"I think this place is amazing," Yocum said.
"I haven't done this in forever, and this is really cool," Krebs added.
In addition to golf, the complex features arcades, the world's largest KISS gift shop, and the Hotter than Hell Wedding Chapel.
KISS by Monster Mini Golf is a place for all KISS connoisseurs.
"It's totally awesome. Las Vegas is very, very lucky to have this, and I'll be back," KISS fan Derrick Simpson said.
Stanley says Las Vegas is a city that plays by its own rules, and they're giving Las Vegas a little kick with their eight-inch heels.
KISS by Monster Mini Golf is now open to the public.

It's (Almost) Official: KISS and Motley Crue Touring This Summer- Together
Vince Neil has told the Las Vegas Sun that Motley Crue will be touring with KISS (as co-headliners) begininng in July.
“It’s going to be really cool because KISS is bringing their full stage show, and Motley will be bringing our full stage show, so you are going to see two huge headliners at the same time. It’s going to be one of the biggest tours of the summer, if not the biggest,” Vince Neil told the Sun.
The tour is expected to run through September. An official announcement is expected with tour dates next week from Los Angeles.

Kiss' landmark fourth studio break-through album was released on this day in 1976. The album featured a more polished, sleeker sound for Kiss and peaked on Billboard's Top 200 Album Charts at #11. The album spawned many Kiss classics Detroit Rock City, God of Thunder, Shout It Out Loud as well as the chart topper, Beth, produced by legendary producer Bob Ezrin.
The distintive artwork was done by Ken Kelly who the band later commissioned him to create the artwork for Love Gun. April 22, 1976 the album was certified Gold. On November 11, 1976, Destroyer became the first Kiss album to be certified platinum. Beth peaked at #7 on the Singles chart. Singles released, Shout It Out Loud, Flaming Youth, and Detroit Rock City with the B-Side Beth becoming the fourth single. The album featured the Harlem Boys Choir on Great Expectations.

The collaboration with restaurant impresario Michael Zislis and concert promoter Dave Furano is intended to "capture the excitement of live concerts in an authentically themed backstage environment," a news release announcing
the venture said.
The first Rock & Brews is scheduled to open south of Los Angeles International Airport in the beach community of El Segundo, Calif., April 3.
Locations also are planned in Los Angeles International Airport, Maui, Denver and Atlanta, as well as Tokyo, Japan and Los Cabos, Mexico.
The chain's menu will boast "quality comfort foods that feed the soul as much as the appetite" and "hundreds of craft beers to choose from," its proprietors said.
Rock & Brews will feature large-screen televisions that continuously screen concert videos and live recordings of rock concerts with state-of-the-art sound, the release said.

EL SEGUNDO - Flamboyant rocker and reality television star Gene Simmons will add another item to his resume next month in El Segundo: restaurateur.
The blood-spewing, flame-spitting bassist of legendary rock band Kiss is among the partners in Rock & Brews, which will open April 3 on El Segundo's Main Street.
Partnering with Simmons are veteran concert promoter Dave Furano and local restaurant owner/brewmaster Michael Zislis.
The restaurant is touted as offering a "backstage environment," built around the types of comfort food and drinks Furano would often provide backstage for touring acts and their families while promoting concert tours. The eatery will feature a large beer garden offering an array of craft beers and decorated with concert lighting, posters and projection screens showing concert films and videos.
The garden will include picnic tables, a play area for kids and an open area so guests can bring their dogs.
Simmons and his partners are expected to officially open the outlet, 143 Main St., on April 3 with a benefit for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Additional locations for Rock & Brews are being planned at Los Angeles International Airport as well as Hawaii, Denver, Atlanta, Tokyo and Mexico.

On this day, March 12, 1996, Kiss' Unplugged is released. The album features 16 Kiss songs played electric acoustic. Originally taped, a week after the 1995 Convention tour was completed, on August 9, 1995 in New York City. Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick opened the show with Kiss classics with the highlight of the night being the reunion of Peter Criss and Ace Frehley with Paul and Gene performing "Beth" and "2,000 Man" and then bringing out Eric and Bruce to perform "Nothin' To Lose" and "Rock And Roll All Nite" as a 6 piece band for the encores.This marked the first time all original members played together since 1979's Dynasty tour. The album peaked on the US Billboard Top 200 at #15 and #4 on the Australian charts. The recordings were released in 4 different formats, vinyl album, CD, VHS and DVD. The video went Gold selling 50,000 copies in the US alone. The album went Gold in the US selling 500,000 copies. The single "Rock And Roll All Nite" reached #13 on the mainstream rock charts.
The vinyl release featured a collage poster with the DVD ( a hard to find item ) including tracks "Hard Luck Woman" (Paul Stanley vocals), "Spit," "Heaven's On Fire," "C'mon and Love Me" and a one of a kind country version of "God Of Thunder." Phil Ashley (a longtime Kiss associate) played piano on "Everytime I Look At You" and Jon Grindstaff, conductor and string arrangements on "Every Time I Look at You."

Kiss opened their Farewell Tour on this day in 2000 at the Desert Sky Pavilion in Phoenix AZ. Ticket sales for this show were 14,584 sold out of 19,586 tickets available. The North American leg (total of 5 legs) was the only portion of the tour to feature all four original members of Kiss. The tour played 142 shows with one cancellation. The tour began in Phoenix, AZ., on March 11, 2000 and ended on April 13, 2001 on Australia's Gold Coast at Carrara Stadium before 20,457 fans. The June 27, 2000 show at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ was taped for the pay-per-view titled, "One Last Kiss."
Peter Criss' last show with Kiss was in North Charleston, South Carolina on October 7, 2000, destroying his drum kit at th end of the show. This was the final date of the North American tour. Drummer Eric Singer came back into the band, playing out the rest of the tour in Australia and Japan. Kiss largest attendance was at Tokyo Dome (1 show) on March 11, 2001 with 41, 895 (sold out) and the lowest at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT., with 3,162 (sold out). A few months ago we received a handful of photos purportedly from Vinnie Vincent's private collection.
The pictures were supplied by a fan that claimed to have had a close relationship with the former KISS guitarist and had supposedly been jilted. The photos received quite a few views as well as some mud slinging back and forth in the comments section. Read for yourself.
We have now received a whole new set of Vinnie Vincent & KISS photos from the 1982-1983 Creatures of the Night era. These pictures were supplied by a member of the Vinnie Vincent Fan Forum and, as far as we know, are relatively unseen. Could these photos come from the same source as the previous ones? No one here knows for sure but it is interesting.
Many of the shots appear to be from a promotional photo shoot while others seem to be possibly from an in-store appearance. This era of the band was short-lived, thus photos with the Simmons/Stanley/Carr/Vincent lineup of KISS are a bit more scarce.

That’s right, dorks. Come April 6-8 disgraced dead-dog-hoarder Vinnie Vincent won’t be the only former KISS guitarist occupying Middle Tennessee. Because April 6-8 is when Ace “Spaceman” Frehley will appear as The Full Moon Tattoo and Horror Festival’s guest of honor at Nashville Convention Center. Presented by the recently-relocated-to-East Nashville Lone Wolf Tattoo and its parent company Full Moon, Inc., this 11th annual three-day dork-out on body art and bloody fiction will also feature appearances from Jerry “The King” Lawler, I Spit on Your Grave star Camille Keaton, scream queen Stacey Dixon, The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, Robert Carradine (the dude who played Lewis in all four installments of the Revenge of the Nerds franchise), Tony Todd (the dude who played The Candyman in the Candyman films), two dudes who each played Jason Voorhees, two dudes who each played Michael Myers and some dude who was in Saw 3.

Melvins/Nirvana "KISS" Van for sale on Ebay

The broken-down brown and cream-colored van that is covered in graffiti and has not been moved since 1998 is attracting the interest of grunge music fans after being listed for sale on eBay.
The "Melvan," one of the first touring vans of Seattle band The Melvins, features a sketch on the side of rock band KISS that was drawn by grunge rocker and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.
Cobain was an acquaintance of the band.
By Monday night, the 1972 Dodge Sportsman Royal had received 38 bids, pushing its price to $10,300 with a week to go in the online auction.
The seller described the van as "a very unique piece of Melvins/Nirvana history" and "truly one of a kind."
"The KISS mural on the side was hand drawn by Kurt Cobain using sharpie markers shoplifted from the Thriftway grocery store in Montesano, Washington," the listing claims.
"Kurt himself was often times known to drive this van to local shows."
The seller also said the van was last driven in 1998 on a "short trip around the block."
"I would not trust it on any sort of road trip, ironically, the license tabs expired April of 94, how crazy is that?" the seller added.
Cobain committed suicide on April 5, 1994, at the age of 27.

'Cadillac High' wins conditional incentives to shoot KISS movie in Michigan

"Cadillac High," a feature film based on the KISS's 1975 celebratory tour to the city of Cadillac, has received conditional approval for incentives to shoot the movie in Michigan.
And since the movie turned in its application to the Michigan Film Office before last year's Dec. 31 deadline, incentives to locate filming of "Cadillac High" won't be subject to the 2012 cap of $25 million budgeted by the state.
"It was a project that we wanted to make sure to do everything possible to keep here in Michigan," says Michigan Film Office Communication Adviser Michelle Begnoche.
In 1974, the Cadillac High School Vikings, playing KISS albums in the locker room before and after games, won seven straight games and wound up conference co-champs. Word spread to the glitter-rockers of KISS, who visited Cadillac the next year for the most raucous Homecoming weekend on record.
