Gene Simmons Legal Marriage-Like Relationship While In Canada
Gene Simmons Has Legal Marriage-Like Relationship While In Canada
RockStarWeekly.com
Gene Simmons might consider himself happily unmarried and protected under the non-existence of California laws for common law marriage, but when the KISS superstar heads to his Whistler, British Columbia home with his dual-citizenship partner Shannon Tweed, he might be in a situation that’s closer to marriage than he might want to admit to.
Under the British Columbia Estate Administration Act, while Simmons is in a Canadian province where he owns a home (ie. Whistler, BC), he is considered a common law spouse. While not considered officially married, under the terminology of the Administration Act, Simmons and Tweed have met the requirements to be considered to be in a marriage-like relationship, as seen on the hit television series Gene Simmons Family Jewels.
In the legal Canadian case of Moldowich v Penttinen, seven factors were used to declare them legal partners, all of which have been witnessed on the Gene Simmons Family Jewels television program.
1. Shelter - Simmons/Tweed share accommodation at the same house. (As seen in GSFJ).
2. Sexual and Personal Behavior - Simmons/Tweed maintain an intimate interdependent relationship and were so perceived by others. (GSFJ Episode 5, Food or Sex, Simmons is refused “nookie” until he loses 5 lbs).
3. Services - Simmons/Tweed share the traditional functions of a family. (GSFJ episode 29, the “family” goes camping).
4. Social - Simmons/Tweed portray themselves as a couple to the outside world. (GSFJ episode 88, Sex & Rock N’ Roll, they mistakenly attend a sex party together and leave – not wanting to participate).
5. Societal - Simmons/Tweed are treated by their community as a couple. (GSFJ episode 88, Sex & Rock N’ Roll, invited to the party as a couple).
6. Economic Support - Simmons/Tweed show that they can be economically interdependent. (GSFJ episode 30, Sucker Bet, Shannon bets Gene’s money on a horse).
7. Children - Children are part of the Simmons/Tweed home. (Nick and Sophie)
In the State of California there are no laws or governings for common law relationships, so Simmons can remain happily unmarried, but in the province of British Columbia, with his Canadian/American partner, Gene must follow the Canadian laws making him one step closer to marriage than he might not otherwise want or preach of.

Kiss Recreates ‘Detroit Rock City’ at Mini Stand
By TAMARA WARREN/New York Times
Smoke spurted, the curtain lifted and in rock star fashion Kiss took the stage Thursday morning at the New York auto show. The band wore full makeup, stilted heels and shiny spandex and posed next to four Mini Cooper Countrymans, customized according to each member’s face makeup pattern and persona — the Demon, the Spaceman, the Catman and the Starchild. The signed cars and other Kiss memorabilia will be auctioned for Unicef.
Gene Simmons, the bassist and vocalist, stuck out his infamous tongue and raised his arms, while the guitarist Tommy Thayer and the drummer Eric Singer lunged for the photo opportunity. The fourth Kiss member, Paul Stanley, was unable to attend because of a family emergency, Mr. Simmons said. Mini USA President Jim McDowell wore Kiss-inspired makeup and introduced the band. In their tall heels, they towered over Mr. McDowell. “I seem a little short,” he said.
Richard Drew/Associated Press
Jim McDowell, Mini USA chief, with Gene Simmons of Kiss.“You don’t seem short,” Mr. Simmons said in response.” You are short.”
The band gathered in the basement of the Javits for interviews with Mr. McDowell after the conference. Mr. McDowell used a makeup artist for the event, but the band said they always apply the makeup themselves.
The auction begins online May 29 and runs to June 19. “We don’t make it a habit of doing press conferences and trying to convince people that we care about the planet we live and we live on the planet,” Mr. Simmons said. They also work with the charity Wounded Warriors. “We’re very blessed to lead this life.”
They have 20 concerts scheduled for this summer. “Detroit’s got its wonderful qualities and New York does too. What a great way to see America in the Mini Cooper. Wouldn’t that be cool?” Mr. Simmons said. “I’m going to get me one. I want the Demon. Jim is going to get me the Demon Mini Cooper.”
Several of the band members collect cars. “We are car aficionados,” Mr. Singer said. “I have a couple vintage cars. I go to car shows on the weekend. Southern California is the car culture of America when it comes down to it.”
When it’s time to tour, they take to the skies “We have a Kiss jet,” Mr. Thayer said. “But we’re all into cars we can appreciate great cars. Mini Coopers have a rock and roll history. Back in the ’60s the Beatles used to drive Mini Coopers, Paul McCartney, John Lennon.”
None of the Kiss members drive Minis, but they each expressed an interest in driving Minis around Los Angeles. “Not as many cars would look good with your face wrapped on them,” Mr. McDowell said.

Rock Band 3 Features Two Live Kiss Tracks
Beginning next week, fans can play live versions of two of KISS’s greatest hits – “Rock and Roll All Nite (Live)” and “Strutter (Live)”. “Strutter”, from the band’s 1974 debut album, was featured on the Guitar Hero II soundtrack. “Rock and Roll All Nite” was originally released on KISS’s 1975 album, Dressed to Kill. A live version of the song reached No. 12 on the Billboard singles chart and became the first of six of KISS’s Top 20 songs in the 1970s. The band has closed every live concert since 1976 with the song. To find out when you can see KISS perform live, please click HERE.

Kiss Releases Statement on McCartney Tribute Album
McCARTNEY ALBUM NEWS:
KISS recorded a version of "Venus And Mars/Rock Show" for the set, with the backing tracks all having been recorded by Paul McCartney's touring band. KISS said in a statement, "We consider it an honor to be asked to participate on a tribute to one of the most influential and greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Not to mention, a major force in the most important band of all time, THE BEATLES. Wow!"
We can't wait to hear this!!
STUDIO NEWS:
On the new album: KISS have tracked five songs at Conway Studios in Los Angeles since entering the studio April 13. Tommy Thayer has added his lead guitar parts to five of those tracks. Meanwhile, Last month, Gene Simmons said in an interview that “the new record, which we already started working on, is gonna be the next step to Sonic Boom. Very similar — straight rock songs, no ballads, no keyboards, no nothing, just rock…A lot of the songs [have been] written by the whole band together, so no outside writers, just the band doing what it did on the first three records — writing the songs ourselves. We have almost all the songs written. In fact, we have too many songs; we have about 20 to 25 things that look and sound good.”
On April 14, Gene Simmons reported , "Went into the studio today for day 1 of the new studio album. We've got some rockin' stuff." He followed that with a few other updates that read, "In studio. Lead guitars under way on new stuff. Killer," as well as "KISS 18 hole mini golf course in Las Vegas. It's coming."

Kiss In the Studio
via kissonline
"Here's a photo of Paul in the recording studio yesterday. The band has already laid down the basic tracks for five new songs! Tommy is adding his lead guitar parts right now.
Sounds great! You will love it!"
From Tommy Thayer:
"It's been a great week in the recording studio working on the brand new KISS album. It truly sounds amazing and the new songs are kicking my ass. We cut basic tracks for a bunch of songs together as a unit in the studio for two or three days. We all agreed that we've never got tracks that sound this good before.
"Yesterday, I took a shot at a few guitar solos. Paul's producing and doing a superb job steering the ship. Stay tuned for more updates soon..."

Tom Arnold Tells Jimmy Kimmel He Tried to Save Kiss Drummer (1991)
In a recent interview, Tom Arnold Tells Jimmy Kimmel he tried to save Kiss Drummer Peter Criss after hearing the drummer was on drugs and living under a pier in Santa Monica., CA., in 1991.
(Click link above to watch the clip)
Fresh out of rehab, Tom Arnold was on top of the world. More importantly, he was ready to pay it forward. As he told 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), he took a tip from 'The National Enquirer' and tracked down Peter Criss. The tabloid said the KISS drummer was homeless in Santa Monica.
As his story progressed, we started to anticipate the inevitable punchline, but the way it came about was still deliciously twisted. Arnold put Criss up in a motel room and checked in on him periodically, trying to help the guy get cleaned up and maybe get into rehab.
But then his old girlfriend from Boston wanted to take care of him. The two battled it out until one day Criss was gone from the motel. The girlfriend had had him brought to her.
"I get a call back from her four hours later," Arnold said. "She goes, 'Oh my gosh. He's in my living room. He's throwing up. And he's not Peter Criss.'"
"I assumed it was him 'cause he didn't have the cat makeup on," he explained to Jimmy Kimmel. At least he can be pleased that he did help someone, even if it wasn't someone famous that he was going to take the credit for.

Gene Simmons on ABC's "Castle"
We’ve been hearing about Castle‘s Los Angeles excursion, but now comes the first look at the episode airing May 2. In the episode, called “To Love and Die in L.A.,” Beckett (Stana Katic) goes rogue and follows a suspect in the shooting death of her former partner to Los Angeles against orders. Castle (Nathan Fillion) tags along, and they end up visiting the set of the Heat Wave movie and enlist the cast to help break the case. Sadly, Laura Prepon won’t recur as the actress playing Nikki Heat, the heroine of Castle‘s crime novels inspired by Beckett. But we will get to meet the two actors playing the fictionalized versions of Esposito and Ryan. (That’s some solid casting with Justice Gamble and Ryan Deal, respectively).
Rock star Gene Simmons pops up as himself and the owner of the Beverly Hills mansion where the victim was living — we’ve got your first look at his guest spot above. Other guest stars include Prison Break‘s Dominic Purcell as a local businessman who may have a connection to the murder, The Cutting Edge‘s D.B. Sweeney as a detective in Robbery Homicide who questions Castle and Beckett about their rogue investigation, and Off the Map‘s Jason George as an entrepreneur with a connection to the murder case. I’m guessing we’re supposed to be most intrigued by this line in ABC’s episode description, “As they get closer to apprehending their killer, Castle begins to wonder whether Beckett is out for justice…or revenge,” but really, I’m most excited to see faux Esposito and Ryan. You?

Kiss:The Rock Band, the Music, the Makeup
By Erika Bjork/Sacremento Press
Attention all KISS Army. Yes, that means you. Dust off those platform shoes, dig in the closet for your skin-tight pleather and cover your face in your kid’s Halloween make up because your favorite rock band is coming to town – KISS.
One of America’s most influential rock and roll bands is coming to Sacramento during Memorial Day Weekend. The legendary rock stars that have performed at the Super Bowl, Olympics and “American Idol” – Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer - will be at Raley Field on Sunday, May 29 as the headliner for Hope Production Foundation’s Walk ‘N Rock for Kids 2011. All proceeds benefit Sacramento region charities.
Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster and range from $40 - $125 each. “The Hottest Show on Earth” will be up close and personal during the performance at the intimate venue, Raley Field; all for the benefit of their fans or the KISS Army. Expect to see the smoking guitars, shooting rockets and other pyrotechnics the band is known for during its 37-year-career.
Lace Up Your Shoes and Get Ready to Rock: Five Ways to Prepare for KISS
Worldwide sales for the rock band’s albums now exceed 100 million albums and don’t include its wide range of other products or reality shows such as “Gene Simmons Family Jewels.” Due to a schedule of high-profile international tours and stadium performances, Sacramento KISS fans have only rarely had a chance to see their favorite rock stars on home turf with the most recent performance at ARCO Arena in 2009.
“KISS raised the bar for what a rock concert should really be,” said KISS bassist and singer Gene Simmons.
The morning of the concert will feature the “walk” portion of Walk ‘N Rock for Kids 2011 as more than 6,000 walkers will lace up their sneakers (before lacing up their platform boots) to raise money for Sacramento charities including but not limited to: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cristo Rey High School, Keaton Raphael Memorial, Okizu, People Reaching Out, River Cats Foundation, Wind Youth Services.
Team Warrior Princess Sends 23 Kids with Cancer to Camp Thanks to Walk N Rock
This is the third year for Walk ‘N Rock for Kids. Previous performances include Journey, Sammy Hagar and Heart. Hope Productions Foundation is a Sacramento-based nonprofit that provides support and training at no cost for local charities serving children and youth. Their services include training and guidance for nonprofits to improve their marketing, fundraising, partnerships and board cultivation so they may become more efficient and increase their potential for long-term sustainability. Through events such as Walk N' Rock for Kids, Walt Gray Ride, Hope in Harmony and generous business sponsorships, they have raised and provided over $1.5 million in contributions, resources, marketing and in-kind business training for local children's charities.

Eddie Trunk Talks Kiss
Eddie Trunk, host of "That Metal Show," Q104.3 Radio Host and author of ‘Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal’ Talks Kiss
By Justin Tedaldi/NationalExaminer.com
Here is an excerpt:
What do you think KISS should do next?
Do what they said they were going to do over 10 years ago: retire. I don’t think they need a full set, but maybe one show where you get all the surviving members of the band; get them out there to play; do a song with the original band. Somebody find Vinnie Vincent, somebody get Bruce Kulick. Sadly, Mark St. John and Eric Carr are no longer with us. Do a big celebration of the band’s history, one big show in New York or something, and end it. And then, I certainly think they could all go on and do things. Gene [Simmons] could do reality shows; Paul [Stanley] could do his art and still do solo shows, still make solo music. But to me, as a fan—and God knows I’m a huge KISS fan—it’s just been beaten up now.
It’s funny, you pull any press clipping from 2000 when they said they were doing their farewell tour, and they’re asked why. And the answer was always the same: “We don’t want to drag the band through the mud; we don’t want to stay at the party too long; we don’t want to have anybody blasting us with, ‘Why are you guys still doing this?’” And here we are, 11 years later, and I’m asking some of those questions because, to me, the band has become, in some regards, a tribute band—half the band are a tribute band. And I’ve been honest about what I’ve said about that many times; it’s how I feel as a fan. If they dressed those guys [Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer] as their own characters and let them be their own people, fine. It’s just hard for me to swallow. But for most people who are not nearly as passionate about it as I am, who just want to go see fireworks and hear “Rock and Roll All Nite,” they don’t really care, and that’s why they can still get away with it.
But above and beyond all of that, I’ve seen footage of the band; I’ve seen them in various versions of this lineup in the last few years. And this is the bigger issue: these guys, although they’re still in good shape, Gene and Paul, physically, they’re 60 now. You know, KISS isn’t the Eagles; they’re not Crosby, Stills & Nash—you can’t sit on barstools and strum acoustic guitars. No one in their right mind can tell me that the same energy is coming off of that stage at this age in these costumes and what they can do. The last time I saw them, man—it was a little boring, to be honest with you. There wasn’t a lot of that same energy and drive that I’m used to seeing on the stage.
And I can’t tell you how many e-mails I’ve gotten from people saying, “What’s wrong with Paul’s voice? What’s wrong with Paul’s voice?” I don’t know. I mean, I don’t go to [their] shows anymore; I don’t know. But when those sort of things happen—you’ve got new guys dressed up as other guys out there, people wondering, “Is the guy’s voice okay?,” ailments and hip replacements and you’re slowing down and you can’t move like you used to, that, to me, is when it’s time to figure something else out here.
Why do you think they’re still doing it? At least two of them are well-off financially.
Yeah, but it’s still profitable. They’re still playing casino gigs, they’re still playing festival gigs. Listen, one thing I’ve learned, and I don’t really blame anybody for this: most people who have a lot of money are the people that want to make money more than anyone. I’ve seen it with athletes, I’ve seen it with musicians, you know? It’s the old saying, “the rich get richer.” And I’m not knocking anybody for making a living and doing what they’ve go to do. I can’t [say] that I’d be any different if I was in those situations. But those two things, it’s the constant drive to make money, and really, it’s all they know—it’s all they do, you know? There’s the ego gratification, there’s the attention, and there’s the money. And as long as those things are still going on, some of these guys can’t let it go.
And I just think that, again, KISS fans get so upset with me; they’re super hardcore when I talk like this, but taking out all of the personal stuff, as a fan, that’s just how I see it. You know, I’m not a blind worshipper. I look at it as a fan and I’ve accepted it, embraced everything KISS has done in their entire history, and this is just the one thing, though—when it gets into this deceptive world, and who’s behind the make-up, and who’s doing this—this is the one thing that I’ve had a hard time with. And again, I think, physically, it’s very hard for them to uphold the level of the KISS standard, regardless of how well you take care of yourself….At that age, they’re not guys that can get away with that when they put on a physical show, like with other bands. That’s what makes them unique.
Did you catch their very first show with Eric Carr in New York?
Yes.
What was that like?
Well, there’s actually a book out now that I just read called The Eric Carr Story that’s really good that I’m interviewed in extensively, talking about Eric and that show. What I remember at that time was that KISS were dying in the U.S. I mean, they didn’t play in 1980 in America outside of that show because they had no audience. Their career had fallen so hard. I mean, they were down and out. People have a hard time understanding that, but in the early ’80s, they were dead in the water. So I just remember Eric being a great sign of life and a big kick in the pants to the band. And I remember a lot of excitement from the diehards at the time.
That’s a perfect example of what I’ve talked about with my history supporting that band. I was there at that show; I embraced Eric Carr, you know? He was the Fox, he was a new character, he was new blood. If they had another guy at that time dressed up as [Carr’s predecessor] Peter Criss, I don’t think I would have been there. So that’s my point about what I was saying earlier. My book is dedicated to Eric, as well as Dio, and he was a great friend of mine over the years. And I miss him.

Kiss Begin Recording Follow-up to "Sonic Boom"
Kiss Mask News
Kiss is to have entered the studio on Monday, April 4, according to Eric Singer during the ESP tour in Europe, to begin work on the follow-up to SONIC BOOM. The album is to
be produced again by Paul Stanley. Some of our friends wonder if the band has decided to record at Conway Studios in Los Angeles as they did with the SONIC BOOM.
The album is scheduled for a fall release along with a US tour... And beyond.
After years of Paul and Gene saying no new Kiss albums, in the last few years, they seem to be hungry again to make new music. This will be Kiss 20th studio album.

Tommy Thayer's Kraft Classic- Wrap Up With George Lopez & Alice Cooper
Tommy Thayer's Kraft/Nabisco Championship
Via TommyThayer.com/April 2, 2011
Just got back from Palm Desert and a wild week playing in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Had a great time playing the first day of the tournament with Chinese pro, Shanshan Feng. Shanshan made a sensational hole-in-one during our round on the 170 yard 17th hole. Now that's impressive! The second day I had the pleasure of playing with the beautiful Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, one of the top 5 players in the world. Alice Cooper was kind enough to get me into the event which included a Monday night party where we turned up the volume and jammed with the local band. Went to dinner at one of my favorite nightspots, 'The Nest' and ended up running into my buddy George Lopez who was holding court with the locals. Of course my lovely wife Amber was there enjoying the good times by my side. Not a bad week at all...

Ace Frehley Visits Gibson Showroom NYC
Ace Frehley recently visited the Gibson Guitars showroom in New York City.
Check out this rare shot of Ace with a Gibson custom shop SG Custom. This model was called the new Les Paul Custom from 1961 until late 1963 when it was renamed the SG Custom
Editor's Note: When I went to the Gibson Showroom in NYC to interview Ace Frehley for Anomaly in 2009, my niece Jessica and I got a rare glimpse into the Gibson showroom. Hallowed ground where the great guitars are housed, played by the greatest of players, while recording their albums. We were allowed to take pictures in the same room where this photo of Ace was taken. By the way, that is a Les Paul Guitar table in front of Ace. Cool huh?
The Gibson Showroom in New York, is a place you feel and smell the history, as well as see it!
Top Photo: Ace Frehley in the Gibson Showroom with SG Custom.
Second Photo: Kiss Masker Frank Hagan checking out the guitars. Pete Townshend's guitar is the Union Jack to my right.
Third Photo: My niece Jessica A. chillin' on a stool in the Showroom.
