KISS PRO-AUDIO OF "MODERN DAY DELILAH" from CLEVELAND'S Q ARENA 09/29/09

ACE FREHLEY WEST HOLLYWOOD SIGNING

(from KNAC.com)
"Anomaly" is the first solo release by Ace Frehley in over 20 years and tonight was the date all Space Ace Fans were waiting for! Best Buy & KNAC.COM had the exclusive first dibs on presenting the new CD to the masses and I'm happy to have represented the station at this In-Store appearance in West Hollywood, CA..in fact KNAC.COM should be the ONLY true station 'Net or otherwise to represent Pure Rock here in town.
(I have the right to be bias because its true!) A great turnout of die-hard
fans in line waiting to get their CD signed by Ace and I want to thank each & every one of them who took time to speak and respond with cheers for me prior to coming inside the store. All ages were represented, from young to old and just a great sight to see.

Also in attendance was long time rock photographer Mark Weiss who was already in town on business and incidently he did all the shots for "Anomaly" as well as the one of me & Ace at the table. So I made a point to hit him up and get his updates.
All in all a lot of work to put this event together but well worth it since the climate in the retail world forces to you be ahead of the curve and create awareness at every turn and we(the fans) all agreed that "Anomaly" is a solid CD and hope there wont be another long wait for the follow up!

ACE FREHLEY INTERVIEW: SPACEMAN IS BACK ON EARTH... AND HAPPY!

ACE FREHLEY /Sept. 2009 INTERVIEW -
PART ONE: BACK WITH A BLISTERING NEW ALBUM OF HOT GUITAR WORK AND AMAZING SONGS! ACE IS BACK BETTER & BADDER THAN EVER! http://www.acefrehley.com/

Kiss Mask: Congratulations on the success of "ANOMALY." It debuts at #27 on Billboard's Top 200 next week.
Ace Frehley: Thank you. That's my lucky number. Too many weird things have happened-but that's the way my life's story has been (laughs). So it really doesn't surprise me that much.

KM: It doesn't surprise you at all?
AF: It does but it doesn't. I'm still a little in shock over the numbers. My new label (Bronx Born) is #2 on the Indie charts. You know what? After working on the record for twenty years it was all worth the while.

KM: It actually took two years to record, correct?
AF: I started it at the beginning of 2007.

KM: When I hear "ANOMALY," it sounds like the love child to your 1978 solo album.
AF: By design.

KM: Yes. The '78 solo record is the template...
AF: I listen to my fans. I'm making records because I want my fans to like it- this album is for my fans. It's everything everyone has been asking for and I think I delivered. At the beginning, I listened to my (1978) solo record and tried to figure out why everyone cites that as their favorite solo record and I basically used a lot of the same recording techniques. I used some of the same musical textures. I recorded the album the same way. The same mic techniques I learned from Eddie Kramer- all pre-amps, Marshall amps in conjunction with old guitars. I remembered the process. I've got some great engineers to work with. It turned out okay.

KM: It turned out more than okay. There is a lot of personal experience with this new record and I think that makes it more special.
AF: Yeah, I put my heart and soul into this record. It really comes from deep inside. You take a look inside a song, "A Little Below The Angels," and I rewrote that song- that song was done and I rewrote it- all the verses I wrote during the mixing process. I rewrote the lyrics... It just became more honest- more straight forward.

KM: "ANOMALY" flows so nicely.
AF: Yeah. I changed the course. The original verses has a totally different feel. Like "Genghis Kahn" basically was, after the guitar intro, how the song started and ended- the intro, the whole breakdown and the end section turned out later on.

KM: Where did you get the idea for "Genghis Kahn?"
AF: Sometimes when I am writing a song, it's almost like I'm not writing it. It's like someone is beaming into my brain and I can't write the lyrics down on a piece of paper fast enough. It's almost like my brain is a radio receiver and somebody is beaming it into my head. Sometimes it's that easy.

KM: I'd love to hear "A Little Below The Angels" and "Genghis Kahn" live. Actually, you could play the entire record live.
AF: It's funny that you say that. A lot of people were talking to me about a special concert of just the 1978 album. We were talking about it last year. Doing couple of selected shows because of the 30Th Anniversary of the solo albums, but I've been too busy finishing this record and touring. That never happened but somehow do whole first album and this album- that would something special.

KM: There are a lot of references to God and Heaven- does this mean Ace Frehley is going to church on Sundays?
AF: I used to when I was a kid. Not too much lately. I really don't think you have to go to church to communicate with God. But getting sober and that whole experience, was a really religious experience.

KM: Did you do it on your own or did you go to rehab?
AF: I didn't go to rehab, although I've been there before, but this time around I cleaned up on my own. I worked on twelve step programs and therapists and got my head screwed on straight - I was screwed up for so long. The day of release of the album was three years sobriety...

KM: ...Was that planned?
AF: No, it just happened by accident. It wasn't planned. Anyone that knows me will tell you that number 27 ( Ace's birthday is April 27) follows me around wherever I go. For the album to debut on Billboard at #27 is like God playing a trick on me - telling me that He's helping me out.

KM: It's good to see you so good...
AF: It's good to be healthy (followed by Frehley's famous cackle).
KM: Also, congratulations today on Kiss being nominated for induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
AF: Yeah, I heard. That's nice.

KM: That's your band you help start.
AF: I designed the logo, came up with the makeup for my character. Somebody else is wearing it now. Go figure (laughs).

KM: Anton Fig plays drums on most of the album. You both have been friends for over 30 years now. How did you hook up with Anton?
AF: I was trying to find a drummer ('78 solo) for the album and a friend of mine from high school with brought up Anton Fig's name. I was going to set up a meeting and then Eddie Kramer was looking for drummers independently . He called me up and one day goes, "Hey, I heard about this Anton Fig." Immediately I said, "Wow. There's something going on here."

KM: And you guys have been close ever since?
AF: That's exactly what happened with Marti Frederiksen, the guy who mixed the album. I asked a couple of independent people- Who would you get to mix the record? His name came up more than once. So, let me take a meeting with this guy. Marti produced "Fox On The Run," and besides mixing a great album with Anthony Foch, he helped me out on "A Little Below The Angels" he plays organ on. On "Fractured Quantum" he played the bass parts and re-programmed the drums. He also sang background on "Fox On The Run." He's a multi-talented guy. I just saw him last week in LA at a question and answer thing we did at the Grammy Museum - and that was great!

INTERVIEW WITH ERIC SINGER

Kiss and tell: Interview with drummer Eric Singer
By Dan Kane/ NORWICH BULLETIN
GateHouse News Service
The son of a popular Cleveland bandleader, Kiss drummer Eric Singer grew up in the ’70s listening to WMMS and jamming on drums with his neighborhood rocker pals.
He found his career path early.
In 1984, Singer went on tour with hard-rock goddess Lita Ford, and a year later joined Black Sabbath. In 1989, he played drums on Kiss frontman Paul Stanley’s solo tour, which led to an ongoing gig with Kiss. Singer simultaneously has been Alice Cooper’s drummer since 2000, and has played on three Cooper albums to date.
Singer has played with Kiss steadily since 2004, appears on the band’s forthcoming album, “Sonic Boom,” and is on tour with the band.
Singer, 51, was on his way to Detroit for tour rehearsals when he phoned to chat Tuesday afternoon.
Q. Tell me about the preshow ritual of putting on your Kiss makeup.
A. It’s like the calm before the storm, if you will. The four of us get together and it’s like a war room where we’re preparing for battle. We’re sitting there for a couple of hours and there’s always great music. Gene will play deejay a lot of time. He likes to pull out old crazy blues stuff and doo-wop. It’s very eclectic.

PAUL STANLEY & GENE SIMMONS TO APPEAR ON HOWARD STERN

Paul and Gene will appear on Howard Stern on October 6, the relase day of "SONIC BOOM."
"The Howard Stern Show" is broadcast on Howard 100 and 101, two uncensored channels on Sirius XM Radio.

Q&A with Kiss cofounder Paul Stanley

Q&A with Kiss cofounder Paul Stanley
BY BRIAN McCOLLUM/FREE PRESS POP MUSIC WRITER/DETROIT FREE PRESS
Kiss will launch its North American tour with a pair of Cobo Arena shows this weekend, the latest chapters in the long, strong relationship between the band and the town it dubbed Detroit Rock City.

They're the biggest Kiss shows in Detroit since the band opened its 1996 reunion tour at Tiger Stadium.
This time, founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons are joined by guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer as Kiss revs up for the Oct. 6 release of "Sonic Boom."
It's the first Kiss album since 1998's "Psycho Circus," recorded as the reunited lineup was starting to disintegrate. (The band launched a farewell tour in 2000.)
Stanley, who produced "Sonic Boom," recently spoke with the Free Press from his home in Los Angeles.

QUESTION: You've said that Kiss continues to draw young fans into the fold. What's the allure?

ANSWER: At this point, with the legend of Kiss, there really is a sense of a band that has always delivered 100% and tried to deliver more. And there's a young audience that has heard about us and wants to see if that's true. They find out -- deafeningly and blindingly -- that it is. I think it's timeless. The members of Kiss, the iconic figures, are timeless. And that's intriguing.

KISStory: September 22, 1998 - PSYCHO-CIRCUS

WELCOME TO THE SHOW!
PSYCHO-CIRCUS was released on this date 11 years ago and
recorded between January and April of 1998. The album marked
a reunited KISS of Gene, Ace, Peter and Paul. However, it was later revealed that Peter drummed on one song which was Ace's contribution,"Into The Void." Kevin Valentine actually drummed on the remaining songs on the album and saw former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick and current KISS guitarist, Tommy Thayer, playing on tracks as well.
It's been said that Ace only appears on "Into The Void" and "You Wanted The Best." Peter did lead vocals on the Paul Stanley penned ballad, "I Finally Found My Way."
Album time: 47:03. RIAA Certified: Platinum.
PSYCHO-CIRCUS peaked on Billboard's Top 200 at #3. Singles: "You Wanted The Best" #22(1999), "Psycho Circus"#1(1998). The tour kicked off at LA's Dodger Stadium on Halloween night 1998 in the first ever 3-D tour. The Smashing Pumpkins opened the show.

SONIC BOOM REVIEW/ TMR ZOO

TMR Music Review: KISS - Sonic Boom
By Bruce Owens
Is it possible for a band to rip their selves off? KISS’ new release Sonic Boom nods to classic KISS in a frightening way. Though they are marketing geniuses KISS has always been on the trailing edge of music trends. Still they tend to get to the party in time to make an impact.
Case in point KISS’ disco anthem “I Was Made for Loving You” was released on the eve of the death of disco. KISS was also late getting to the hairband party. Still KISS was able to wash of their makeup, that is most of it and crank out some great hits.
So now we have the retro resurgence of classic rock. Retro bands Jet, The Killers and Wolfmother are all building huge audiences regurgitating 30 year old riffs.
On the retro band wagon comes KISS. They have come full circle abandoning their heavy metal\hair band days of Animalize and Psycho Circus to once again deliver straight forward hard rock.
Not only have they ravished the KISS catalog they seem to have strip-mined every good idea the band has had since their inception. Gone are the over processed guitars of Bruce Kulick and Vinnie Vincent. Tommy Thayer is delivering a classic Les Paul via Marshall stack sound through his Hughes & Kettner amp.

ACE FREHLEY SHOW PLANNED IN MICHIGAN
Kewadin Casino has unveiled several upcoming shows, including former Kiss lead guitarist Ace Frehley.
Interest should be strong, considering Kiss's profile is higher than it's been in decades: a new album,Sonic Boom, has been generating laudatory reviews and an ongoing tour selling out the biggest stadiums, just like it was the '70s again.
Not to mention that Kiss has snubbed Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., which had the third-highest number of votes to try to attract Kiss to their city, in a much ballyhooed "fan-directed tour" online vote earlier this year.
At least fans can trek to the Michigan Sault to see an original member. Frehley was kicked out in 1982 for his drug and alcohol abuse.
He'll play the Dream Makers Theatre Nov. 13. Tickets are US$28.50 and are on sale now, at the Dream Makers box office at Kewadin or online, at kewadin.com .
Hopefully, more shows will be booked soon.

KISStory - SEPTEMBER 18, 1978 - The SOLO ALBUMS

KISS RELEASE 4 SOLO ALBUMS ON THE SAME DAY:
Casablanca Records and KISS did something that was unheard of,
releasing 4 albums from each band-member all on the same day, which had never beenbefore or since. In industry circles, executuves thought Neil Bogart was taking a huge risk in doing so. Four million copies (one of each member) were shipped on the same day. Bogart spent a fortune on promotion from radio, tv, to billboards to print ad- the KISS Solo Albums were everywhere, even renting time on the Times Square Jumbotron and a huge billboard on Sunset Blvd., in Hollywood.
Each album sold in different members with Ace's album selling the most and spawning a top 40 hit at #13 on the Billboard singles chart with "New York Groove." Paul produced his own album which was the most Kiss-like. Gene had a guest list on his record that acted like a guest list to a big Hollywood party and Peter went the furthest away from Kiss music, utilizing his R&B and Jazz influences. Album stats and details follow tv commercial below,

BRUCE KULICK TO RETURN TO AUSTRALIA

BRUCE KULICK is coming back to Australia armed with his first new solo album in five years – BK3 – and a brand new live show that promises to delve into the depths of material from his twelve year tenure with Kiss and his work in the last thirteen years as a solo artist. BK3 is Kulick’s third solo release, hence the title.

Australian fans will be among the first to hear the album, which will be released ahead of its worldwide debut at the concerts. BK3 features the soaring guitars and signature riffs that Kulick is known for, along with an array of special guests that include former KISS band mates Gene Simmons and Eric Singer, KNACK lead vocalist Doug Fielder, and Nick Simmons (Gene’s son and rising star in his own right) making his vocal recording debut.

Bruce promises the shows will be worth the wait and will feature a plethora of Kiss tunes from the eight albums he recorded with the band between 1984 and 1996. Hits like 'God Gave Rock and Roll To You II', 'Crazy Crazy Nights', 'Forever', and 'Tears Are Falling' will be nestled alongside many rarities never performed live by KISS themselves.

Kulick has become a regular in Australia, first visiting these shores in 1978 as part of MEAT LOAF’s Bat Out Of Hell band, with KISS in 1995, as part of ESP (a side project featuring members of ALICE COOPER’s band, KISS and MÖTLEY CRÜE), and several times as a solo artist. Most recently, he conducted a whirlwind guitar clinic tour, hitting four cities during a week in April 2009. For info Kulick.net .

BRUCE KULICK CHECKS WITH AT GRAMMY MUSEUM

BRUCE MEETS ACE (photo by Mark Weiss)
(from Bravewords.com)
Legendary rock guitarist ACE FREHLEY discussed his first new album in 20 years, Anomaly, on September 14th before an intimate audience of 200 in the Grammy Museum's Grammy Sound Stage.

Former KISS guitarist BRUCE KULICK was on hand, and has issued the following: "Monday night I was invited to see Ace Frehley at the Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles. I heard about the new museum, and the idea of a drop party (meaning the "day" the record comes out) for Ace obviously made me excited to attend.
Ace came out the capacity crowd of 200, held in the acoustically perfect theatre to his very loyal and excited fans. He looked great, and during the interview was funny and reflective talking about how his new Anomoly CD.
I enjoyed the songs that were introduced and played through the big JBL system. I especially think that Bob Santelli, the executive director who the evenings interviewer, did a great job picking the songs to discuss. Ace and the team that helped create the CD, answered the questions in regards to the music, lyrics and the inspirations for the songs.
Afterwards, the fans were able to purchase the CD and meet Ace. I was able to get this great pic of us courtesy of Mark Weiss, who has worked with KISS and most recently Ace's new disc artwork. Mark currently has a gallery of his pix on display at the Andaz Hotel, which was the famous Hyatt House on Sunset (WEISSGUYgallery.com).
So that was a fun evening downtown, and I wish Ace his best on his new release. I really enjoyed what I heard, and some stand out tracks for me are 'Fox On The Run' and 'Genghis Khan'.
More news coming on my BK3 release and other events I have attended lately."

Originally, KISS was listed as a guest performer for September 22, but with the first night of the tour on Friday night instead of Tuesday night, we'll bet they'll be on Leno Friday night... Stay tuned!

GENE SIMMONS TALKS TO BILLBOARD

GENE SIMMONS TALKS NEW KISS 'SONIC BOOM'
KISS TO FILM MODERN DAY DELILAH VIDEO IN DETROIT
by Gary Graff
(from Billboard)
Gene Simmons says Kiss fans can expect "new outfits, a brand new stage and millions more (dollars) put into it" when the group begins its Kiss Alive 35 tour to promote "Sonic Boom," its first new album in 11 years, on Sept. 25 in Detroit.

Simmons says a portion of Kiss' opening night show will be broadcast live on network TV, though he won't offer specifics. "I don't want to spell it out," he explains. "The different evening shows have policies, and they're jealous of each other." The group will also be filming a video for "Sonic Boom's" first single, "Modern Day Delilah," in Detroit as well as footage for online exclusives and, according to Simmons, an eventual DVD release. Meanwhile, the A&E channel, which airs the weekly "Gene Simmons Family Jewels," will be broadcasting "Kissteria," a documentary shot earlier this year during the Kiss' tour of Australia and New Zealand, which runs through Dec. 6 in Dallas.

"SONIC BOOM" REVIEWED

CLASSIC METAL REVISTED REVIEWS "SONIC BOOM"
(from classicmetalrevisted.com)
I wasn’t too keen on writing a review for “Sonic Boom.” The last time I reviewed a Kiss studio album (“Psycho Circus”) it went all wrong, dreadfully wrong! It is because of that farce that I was desperate for Kiss to not call it a day with that album being their final studio recording (“Nothing Can Keep Me From ‘Puking’ On You,” from the “Detroit Rock City OST,” and “Do You Remember Rock And Roll Radio,” from the Ramones Tribute, don’t count even if the latter is an excellent recording). What was wrong with “Psycho Circus?” Musically, little, I still like the songs that I liked then, and despise the ones that I didn’t. It’s simply a matter of what it represented, the falling apart of the band within and fakery, rather than the ghost players (which isn’t particularly surprising). I also hated the merchandising tie-in which seemed to be more important than anything else, even if it was stupid (IMO). Whatever, ten years later Paul Stanley decided that Kiss would make a new studio album. I fell to my knees and offered thanks. For nothing else, “Psycho Circus” will not be the final Kiss album. Thank you.

THE RETURN OF THE SPACEMAN

NRK INTERVIEWS ACE FREHLEY
By Roy Hilmar Svendsenroy.hilmar.svendsen@nrk.no

NRK: Congratulations on your new album, «Anomaly». The day is finally here, after 20 years. How does it feel?
ACE: It feels wonderful! It’s been a lot of long hours in the studio, some nervous moments when I couldn’t find someone right to mix the album, frustrations and all that. But that’s behind me now. I’m very happy with the end result, and I’m thrilled. I’m very excited about unleashing it to the world today.

NRK: Some of the songs really took me by surprise. «A Little Below The Angels» and «It's A Great Life» doesn't sound like anything you've ever put out on record before. What’s the story behind those two?
ACE: It’s me growing as a songwriter and producer, and letting people hear a different side of me. I’m very glad I was able to do that. If I was still a member of Kiss, I wouldn’t be able to break into that territory. That was one of the reasons I left the band, because I wasn’t feeling fulfilled creatively and needed to move forward with my own stuff.

NRK: It seems like you're in a much happier place now than, say, 15 years ago?
ACE: Yeah, that’s definitely true. It should be no surprise to anybody, as I’ve been sober for three years today. That has really greatly enhanced my life and allowed me to be more creative and more focused. It’s to everybody’s benefit, but the one who benefits the most from that, is me (laughs).

An Oshawa city councillor says he's tapping in to his list of contacts to try to secure an additional KISS performance after tickets for the band's October show sold out within minutes.

Councillor Robert Lutczyk is making calls "first thing" today following a weekend of watching residents line up for days for tickets only to leave empty-handed.

"It's the first on my to-do list, making calls on my network that I've developed just to see. It might be difficult, but it's very possible," Lutczyk said.

PETER CRISS RECORDING NEW ALBUM

PETER CRISS WORKING ON NEW RECORD
(Kiss Mask Webzine)
As previously reported here, in an exclusive Kiss Mask interview with ex-Frehley's Comet guitarist andvocalist Richie Scarlet, Peter Criss is recording a new album.
In an interview I did with Peter last summer to promote his album, One For All, he revealed to me that his next album would be a rock album.
Appearently, Peter has been recording and recorded
tracks during the month of July. The yet untitled
album is expected for release April 2010.
Check out Peter's website-
Here's an excerpt from Richie's interview on Peter's new album-
Q: What do you think of Kiss recording a new record?
A: If you wanna' go back to the original Kiss - I was with Peter Criss almost two weeks ago. I just cut ten tracks on bass. Angel, his original bass player had all the guitars done. So, I came down, did bass on ten tracks for his new album which is going to be released in April 2010. It's a great rock and roll record. I can't tell you how much fun we had for three days. It's kind of ironic going from Ace to Peter - the two rebels of Kiss. They were the attitude of Kiss.
