KISS #1 On New Jersey Radio:
(from RockStarWeekly)
KISS "Modern Day Delilah" has hit radio this week and is having strong showings in some markets across America, including being the number one phone request at WDHA in New Jersey, according to FMQB. The hard rocking Paul Stanley tune is the first single from the upcoming Sonic Boom CD and continues the tradition of KISS getting snubbed by radio. This is the first new material in 11 years and will be sold in the U.S. and Canada exclusively at Walmart, Walmart.com and Sam's Club retail locations.
SONIC BOOM, produced by the band's Paul Stanley in Los Angeles, is the centerpiece of a three-disc set that also features a completely re-recorded greatest hits CD as well as a live DVD shot in Argentina during the band's recent, record-breaking KISS ALIVE 35 South American tour. The CD set will retail for $12, with pre-orders starting in September on Walmart.com.

This year we helped raise over $73,000 to assist our returning service personel with housing, shelter, job training, and education. Philadelphia showed up in force once again - bringing our 3-year total to over $260,000. Here is a picture of Michael Hoplamazian of Glen Mills, PA - a regular supporter of The Radiothon. Michael was the proud winner of a Paul Stanley Signature Washburn Guitar that was signed by Paul and Gene. He won the guitar by making an extremely generous donation to the cause.
I want to personally thank Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for donating this guitar, and their support of an extremely worthy cause. I would also like to urge every member of The KISS Army to take a moment to thank and assist all of our Vets. There are plenty of organizations in every community that you can donate your time and/or money to that would help give back to those who have given so much. No amount is too small, it all means a great deal, and you will feel great about it as well.
Thank you Paul and Gene for all you do!

SIMMONS: "I'M REALLY PISSED OFF AT THE MEDIA."
GENE SIMMONS ON THE MEDIA SPOILING THE SURPRISE:
(from Kissonline)Kiss frontman Gene Simmons says the media is to blame for spoiling a surprise the band had in store for Oshawa, Ont.Earlier this year, Kiss asked fans around the world to go to their website and vote for their hometown to be included in the band's next big tour.
Oshawa finished first among all cities, but when the dates for the tour were announced this week, the Ontario city was left off the list.
Fans and politicians in Oshawa were outraged and Kiss eventually announced that it will play the city on Oct. 7.
But Simmons says the media stoked the flames of the angry fan backlash and ruined what was supposed to be a surprise.Simmons says the band had planned all along to launch its new album, "Sonic Boom," in the city, but was forced by the media to make the announcement early.
"I'm really pissed off at the media for creating this nonsense," Simmons told The Canadian Press in an interview.
"You know, here's the history of the way we do things: you treat everything and everybody special, and because of who and what Oshawa is, which is near and dear to our hearts, because (they) won the No. 1 spot above and beyond New York, L.A., Toronto, Vancouver, we wanted to do a huge campaign."
"(The media) never gave us a chance to treat Oshawa special."
Toronto, London, Ont., Montreal, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary and Vancouver have also been scheduled for tour dates.

PAUL STANLEY:"I HOPE ACE IS HAPPY"
PAUL TALKS TO CLASSIC ROCK
(from Classic Rock)
(from Classic Rock)
Paul Stanley doesn’t believe Ace Frehley’s new solo album will steal the limelight from Kiss’s comeback release, Sonic Boom.
Ex-Kiss guitarist Frehley’s album, Anomaly, goes on sale on September 15, while Sonic Boom comes out on October 6.
Classic Rock asked Stanley this week whether he regarded the timing as unfortunate.
Stanley replied: “For who? Look, it’s a hard one for me to answer. This album took us months to do, that album from what I understand took Ace 15 or 20 years to do.
“I can’t say anything about the timing or the release schedule or what have you – I truly, always go back to: I hope Ace is happy, and I think it’s terrific that he’s alive. Anything else past that is a bonus. I wish him well.”

KISS TO RECORD COBO SHOW FOR DVD?
KISS TO RECREATE 1975 COBO SHOW ON SEPTEMBER 25
by Gary Thison
(The Examiner)
Gene Simmons revealed on an interview with Dominski and Doyle on WCSX -FM that Kiss, who is scheduled to perform at Cobo arena on September 25, is planning to recreate the show they performed there in 1975. That show was recorded and featured on their hit album "Alive!"
Simmons also stated that this show at Cobo will be recorded and released at a later date as a DVD. I'm guessing it's going to be a long concert, because I can't imagine the band not performing some of the songs from their first new-material album in a dozen years, "Sonic Boom" to be released in October (6).

KISS & COBO HALL: RICH KISStory
KISS have such an illustrious history, a love affair, with COBO HALL in Detroit. The legendary hall is scheduled for demoliton to make way for an expansion project. The 12,191 seat indoor arena played as a centerpiece in the 1999 film, Detroit Rock City, although Hamilton Arena in Hamilton, Ontario was actually used in the film. KISS recorded shows at COBO with some of the tracks that appearing on the groundbreaking album KISS ALIVE! The back cover of KISS ALIVE! shows the massive hall filled to the raftersBuilt in 1960, COBO HALL was KISS' first headlining experience in a big arena setting. KISS recorded and videotaped ANIMALIZED LIVE: UNCENSORED at COBO on December 8th, 1984 in front of a sell-out crowd.
COBO Hall is not the only arena sheduled for demoliton. The famed SPECTRUM in Philadelphia has also reached the same fate with a final performance by Pearl Jam on October 31 at the venue. KISS concert dates were a staple for the venue throughout the band's career with the show from the CRAZY NIGHTS tour professionally filmed there but never offically released. I wonder if a similar show for KISS at the Spectrum will follow suit in the vein of the COBO show?

KISS SONIC BOOM ARTIST MICHAEL DORET
MICHAEL DORET INTERVIEWED:
KISS SONIC BOOM ARTIST
By J. Frank Hagan
First of all Michael, the album cover art for SONIC BOOM was released today .I didn't quite know what to expect beforehand , but I love the artwork. It's very different than any other KISS album art. The font reminds me a bit of a throwback, almost a homage to the 1960's of Batman and the Jetsons. Was that intentional?
No, it wasn't, but interesting to see how others are perceiving it! I wanted to give KISS something a little bit different from all the black and chrome imagery that's become so overused and tired these days.
Since KISS was going back to their roots for the music for the album, it was the same premise for the artwork as well?
Yes, Exactly. This is something Paul definitely was pushing for when we discussed where to go with the album art. That's one of the reasons he reached out to me after all of these years. Rock and Roll Over became something that represented, for them, a pivotal moment in their music. I think they wanted me to evoke the same aesthetic sense on Sonic Boom as I had on Rock and Toll Over-- something that acknowledged their hard rock roots.
You said that creating an iconic cover was not your goal on this project, how were you album [able?] to keep that out of the picture after already creating ROCK AND ROLL OVER which is already iconic?
Creating something "iconic" is not an attainable goal. A good analogy would be that a person cannot set out to be a superstar. All you can do is work the hardest, be as great as you can be and have passion for what you do. You might attain that "Superstar" status, but it's not up to you. You put your art, no matter what it is, out there for people to respond to. All I can do is set out to create the best album cover that I can. After that, it's out of my hands. That said, I'm pleased with the art and people have been very receptive.
You dealt strictly with Paul Stanley on the idea as to what he wanted for the cover of SONIC BOOM?
Paul was great. He pretty much left alot of that up to me. That was a lot of pressure! But I showed him my concept, he gave notes and input and viola! An album cover was born!
How did you get involved working with KISS again after all these years?
Very simple. I didn't go looking for this. I received a phone call from Paul when they were on their South American tour in April. He asked me if I'd be interested in working on a new album cover, and I said yes.
How long did it take you to go from pencil sketch to the actual finished product?
Creating my initial idea and putting it down as a rough pencil sketch that Paul would understand took about a week or so. After Paul approved the sketch, getting from that point to the finish probably took about a month. There were details that needed to be ironed out that took some time, such as selecting the photos and having Paul approve the look I intended to give them.
Designing CD covers rather than albums creates a challenge due to the small area to work with - How did you accomplish this without losing any of the integrity of the art and what the band wanted?
This is something that many people don't understand. Getting the information that once appeared on a 12" canvas to reduce down and fit in a format that's less than 40% of that size is not easy. You cannot solve the cover problem the same way. Since elements are smaller there have to be fewer of them, and they have to be bolder in order to have any impact at all on a store shelf at that small size. My art for RaRO doesn't come across as well at the smaller size. There's a difference between holding a CD in your hand, and having it catch your eye as you walk past in a store. It has to act like a miniature poster. That's why I believe my design for Sonic Boom will be effective.
You have a very impressive list of clients, if you can, can you tell me what work you are most proud of?
Well, since you ask I'll list a few, and provide a few links so that people will understand what I'm talking about. Of course I'm proud of the stuff I've done for KISS, but beyond that there's a long list. Here's a few:
The covers I've done for TIME Magazine 1 2 3 4
The album cover I designed for the Squirrel Nut Zippers (total opposite of KISS!)
Bette Midler's Las Vegas show identity
The postage I've designed for the US Postal Service
All the fonts I've designed in the last few years under the name Alphabet Soup...
and the posters I've designed to celebrate the release of those fonts.

KISS SETS OFF SONIC BOOM
by Gary Graff
The self-proclaimed "hottest band in the land" is following the hottest trend in classic rock.
Kiss' new "Sonic Boom" is a three-disc set that mixes new songs and old material with video content at a low price -- in this case, $12. It will be available exclusively at Walmart properties starting on Oct. 6.
"Sonic Boom" includes a full new album, Kiss' first since "Psycho Circus" in 1999. In web site postings, bassist Gene Simmons describes the 11-track set, produced by singer-guitarist Paul Stanley at Conway Recording Studios in Los Angeles, as "the best new record we've done since 'Destroyer.' It is 'Rock And Roll Over' meets 'Love Gun'...If you're a fan of our stuff from about 1977, you'll feel right at home." It's Kiss' first studio album with guitarist Tommy Thayer, and drummer Eric Singer's first since 1997's "Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions."
Accompanying the new material will be a disc of Kiss greatest hits re-recorded by the original lineup and previously available in Japan, as well as a DVD filmed at a concert earlier this year in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The cover was designed by artist Michael Doret, whose previous Kiss credit is 1976's "Rock and Roll Over."Kiss plans to tour extensively to promote "Sonic Boom," but only two dates have been announce so far: Sept. 25 at Detroit's Cobo Hall, where the group recorded its breakthrough "Kiss Alive!" album and portions of "Kiss Alive II;" and a Halloween show at the Voodoo Experience festival in New Orleans City Park.

KISS CD WAL-MART EXCLUSIVE
KISS and Walmart announced today that SONIC BOOM-the band's highly anticipated CD, and its first new material in 11 years-will be sold in the U.S. and Canada exclusively at Walmart, Walmart.com and Sam's Club retail locations beginning October 6.
KISS' Gene Simmons says, "SONIC BOOM may be the best new record we've done since Destroyer! It is Rock And Roll Over meets Love Gun. The world's biggest retailer had better get ready for the hottest band in the world and hire more cashiers before October 6th!"
Stanley continues, "Through all of the albums that are considered our classics, we tried to always find ways to give our fans extras that went beyond just the music. Besides our making the best KISS album in decades, Walmart has made it possible for us to include a bonus CD with 15 of our most famous songs and an additional live DVD, shot during our recent concert in Buenos Aires. So in every sense, SONIC BOOM is the ultimate return to classic KISS form. You wanted the best, you got the best!"
Walmart, one of America's largest music retailers, is finalizing its exciting plans now for its in-store and online destinations for KISS fans surrounding the launch of the new album and tour, and will host various KISS products in addition to their music in its stores this fall. More details on Walmart KISS activity, announcements regarding album pre-sales, sweepstakes and KISS appearances will be shared shortly.

EDDIE TRUNK TALKS ACE, KISS, BRUCE & PETER
EDDIE TRUNK INTERVIEWED
(by Fabio/DeuceNews)
One year later I'm back to you and...what a year had been for KISS fans!KISS new album is around the corner, Ace's Anomaly is like a rocket ready to ride, Bruce's BK3 practically done and..I heard also about a possible new album from Peter!!!!What are your thoughts and expections for KISS, Ace and Bruce highly anticipated new albums?
I think clearly the Kiss album will have the bigggest marketing and name value and the highest profile. All reports are it will be part of an exclusive deal with a major retail outlet here in the USA, something acts like Journey and AC/DC have already done to great success. I have not heard a note of the CD so really no idea what it will sound like. Tommy and Eric are both great players so I have no doubt the musicianship will be solid. Kiss's music over the years has had many turns and directions so it should be interesting to see where they go. I'll have a hard time looking at a Kiss album with the image of Ace and Peter on it though. I just don't get why they don't give Tommy and Eric their own identity, but I will listen with an open mind.
Ace's album I heard and it's solid. Ace is not going to reinvent the wheel. You know what you will get with him and it's pretty much what Kiss/Ace fans will want and love. Straight up no nonsense hard rock. The biggest thing about Ace's album is his vocal. He is singing better than he has in a long time because he's sober. I also advised him on the lead track from the CD and think the first single "Outer Space" is a perfect first single. Listening to BK's album as I type this. Sounds real good and has Gene as a guest. Bruce is a great player but outside of the hard core Kiss fans he is a somewhat under the radar guy. His music doesn't rely so much on the Kiss formula. I think he did the smart thing getting many guests on the album and showcasing his playing. He will have the toughest road selling the CD just because of the lower level of awareness for him outside the Kiss world and in the mainstream.
Have you heard too about a new Rock&roll album from the old Pete?
Peter told me a while ago he had a rock record ready but no idea where thatstands. Kiss fans are loyal to Peter but the music that is most in his heart is not what Kiss fans want to hear, so It's harder for him.
You recently hosted Ace on your radio show, did he mentioned to you of a possible Anomaly European tour?
He wants to tour everywhere he told me. I'm sure it will all come down to where the most interest from promoters is. Like any tour.
Well and what's on your side? What about your projects and business?
I'm still doing two live national radio shows. One on satellite on Sirius/XM and one on FM radio live from New York City and syndicated to others. The way the landscape for radio is in NYC I'm pretty sure my show will be the only outlet for airplay for Kiss, Ace or BK in their hometown, but I'm happy to fill that void for the Kiss fans. I am also now gearing up to shoot the third season of my TV show for VH1 Classic called "That Metal Show". We are booking guests now and have some great stuff lined up. The show has been a big hit and we have all new shows coming in October. My website recently launched a members side and for a small fee you can hear my radio shows and interviews both on audio and video so come see me at http://www.eddietrunk.com/

BRUCE KULICK COMMENTS ON PASSING OF LES PAUL
Yesterday, Bruce sent me an email with his thoughts of the passing of the Legendary Les Paul who died on Thursday at the age of 94.
Les Paul was a true legend. To be such a unique guitarist, and be the
inventor of multitrack recording, as well as various unique effects
that are such a huge part of the music we love, is a testament to his
importance in the music world. Of course we can never forget his
creation of the solid body electric guitar with his name adorned on
the headstock beneath the Gibson logo! He loved playing music, and
respected all the great musicians that used the instrument he made
iconic. Les, you will be missed but never forgotten. - BRUCE KULICK

ACE TWEETS TAYLOR SWIFT
(from Examiner.com)
A hilarious prank Taylor Swift played on Keith Urban paid off. Donning an elaborate KISS costume to surprise her tour mate during a Kansas City, Missouri concert caught the attention of KISS band member Ace Frehley.
The guitarist sent Swift a Twitter message for her prank. She writes: "Ace Frehley tweeted me. Oh. My God." Swift then re-Tweets the rocker's message. "saw your prank on YouTube, you looked great in my outfit. ROCK N ROLL!"

ACE FREHLEY:"I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS ALBUM OUT FOR A LONG TIME"
ACE FREHLEY INTERVIEW WITH MODERN GUITARS
( By Dr. Matthew Warnock/Modern Guitars)
Modern Guitars: Your last solo album was released 20 years ago in 1989. Since then, you've been involved in a number of different projects but have put your solo career on hold for the most part. What inspired you to write and release your new solo CD at this point?
Ace Frehley: I've been trying to get this album out for a long time. We actually started cutting some basic tracks back in the beginning of 2007. I had to put the CD on the backburner when we went out on tour last year, and, of course, producing it myself made it take a lot longer because I'm such a perfectionist. It was picking and choosing the right songs. If you don't come out with a studio album for 20 years, you want to make it special for the fans, and I think I've achieved that at this point. It was also getting it mixed right. In fact, I mixed this record with three separate guys. All the mixes were done fine, but the ones that Marti Frederiksen and Anthony Focx did really hit the mark.

KISS Getting Closer To Revealing Album Title
(From RockStarWeekly)
The new KISS album due Oct 6, and rumoured to be sold through WalMart, will most likely be part of a package including a re-recording disc (Jigoku Retsuden, orginally released in Japan) and a DVD (possibly the ALIVE35 Down-Under Tour). The rumours still fly about the album's title and the artwork. Two titles that have come into play that are top contenders are 360° and Sonic Boom. Both are registred tradrmarks owned by KISS. Recently the editor of Guitar Player Magazine published a review of 5 KISS new songs and he admitted that the title they had on the studio TV monitors while they were playing the audio files was Sonic Boom. The 360° title comes from a new series of trading cards released by the band next week. Considering how top-secret the whole KISS project seems to be, it might be a better bet to go with Sonic Boom.Neither title has yet been confirmed by the band, but a message on the official KISS website says it will be released shortly.

KISS ARTIST INTERVIEW MICHAEL DORET
INTERVIEW MICHAEL DORET/DEUCE NEWS
By Fabio
Q:I am perfectly aware that such definition is way beyond complete as You are among the best designers around and that your art can be seen everywhere, but…you know, we are so next to the D-Day to see the new KISS album title and cover revealed that….;-)
A:I would like more than anything right now to share with you what I did for the new cover. I am very excited about it because I think it is among the very best of my work. But an agreement is an agreement: I gave my word to Paul that I would not reveal anything before the "official" release of information, and I am a man of my word.

Q:I saw you are selling Limited edition signed silkscreens created to celebrate the release of new fonts from Alphabet Soup Type Founders. Are you planning to do something similar with the new KISS Cover art?
A:Yes. But with the cover art for the new album it will probably be a little different. I first had the idea that I would create large scale limited edition signed prints and then sell them myself. But then I talked with Paul, and he really liked the idea, so now I'll probably be doing them in conjunction with KISS. The idea would be to produce limited edition signed giclées that not only would be signed by me, but by members of KISS as well. Also it looks like we'll also be doing a large scale print of "Rock and Roll Over" to be sold in tandem with the print of the new cover. This also was my idea—to tie the two together, as they are both related. There has been plenty of merchandise with the RARO image, but nothing of any quality in a large size. As the artwork for RARO has disappeared in the sands of time, I have to re-create the artwork digitally, otherwise at the large size of the giclées (hopefully around 25" square) it would look terrible. This is all very tentative as we haven't worked out all the details yet. I will post an article on my blog when the details have been finalized. So keep watching!

(from Blabbermouth)Acclaimed drummers Eric Singer (KISS, ALICE COOPER, BLACK SABBATH) and Alex Holzwarth (RHAPSODY OF FIRE, ANGRA, SIEGES EVEN) will both appear on the forthcoming album from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.Commented Tobias: "Eric has played on many tracks [for the upcoming AVANTASIA CD], but we have composed some more. Problem was that now he is busy with KISS, they do a new album and they are on tour, and I couldn't talk him into quitting KISS and getting his priorities straight. [Laughs]"He added, "Alex has been a longtime friend and he's a superb drummer, very different style.
"Eric is your Cozy Powell kind of thunderous rock drummer, Alex's drum work is more nimble and as the remaining songs were quite fast, Alex is a great choice. Both drummers are awesome musicians and great guys. And both are members of my extended family."
