HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2009!
I'd like to wish all of my readers a very happy, healthy, safe and rockin' New Year 2009! We have so much to look forward to as KISS fans this coming year. A new KISS album is coming our way along with a tour of USA and Europe in the Spring and Summer. ACE FREHLEY's new album will be hitting our earwaves (and hopefully a tour!) along with new albums from BRUCE KULICK, TOD HOWARTH and a rockin' tour of Europe from the ERIC SINGER PROJECT!
There will be more GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS as well as more paintings and gallery showings from our premire frontman/artist PAUL STANLEY! It's going to be a fantastic year to be a KISS fan.
I'd like to thank everyone for their support over the year as we just started the Webzine back in June (after a 20 year anniversary since the first publication of KISS MASK MAGAZINE in 1988) and have become one of the main sources for KISS news, interviews, features, archives, video and photo. Expect a lot more from KISS MASK WEBZINE as we will not only feature archival interviews but new interviews, rare photos and videos. It's only just begun...
THANK YOUS- I'd like to thank: Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss, Eric Carr & EricCarr.com, Eric Singer, Tommy Thayer, Bruce Kulick, Vinnie Vincent, Bill Aucoin, Tod Howarth, Rafael Moreira, Nate Morton, John Corabi, Chuck Garric, Doc Mcghee, Melissa Madden, Carol Kaye/Kayos Productions, Lydia Criss, Richie Fontana, Gigi Criss, Keith LeRoux & KissOnLine, Matt, Amy & Julia Porter, Anthony Porter & his band Clashing Plaid, Mark Cooper, Fabio "Deuce", Steve Stierwalt/Kiss ArmyWarehouse, Blabbermouth.com, Bravewords.com, MelodicRock.com, Partyman, Kiss777 (Don), Demon (at Kiss USA Message Board),

"ROCK BAND" IGNITES "DETROIT ROCK CITY" DOWNLOAD SALES
Music video games are selling songs faster than labels
By RYAN NAKASHIMATHE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LOS ANGELES -- "This song is dedicated to Debbie Harry," flinty-eyed Lisa Hsuan purrs into a microphone on the red-lit stage of Hyperion Tavern. It's a cozy dive where patrons drink Coke and beer from bottles and a fading chandelier dangles overhead.
Her tribute is intentionally ludicrous: The 30-year-old veterinarian is about to belt out "Call Me," which Harry -- fronting the group Blondie -- released 28 years ago. Accompanied on fake guitars and drums by three Web programmers who drove in from the refinery-dotted coastal suburb of El Segundo, Hsuan launches in as a smoke machine puffs nearby.
They're playing the video game "Rock Band 2," which along with "Guitar Hero" is rocking bars and living rooms across the country. Many songs' sales have more than doubled after release in one of the games, and well-known bands have started lining up to provide new music direct to the game makers. Now record labels -- noticing what they are missing, and struggling as compact disc sales tumble -- are looking for a bigger piece of the action.

ARCHIVE/BRUCE KULICK Q & A 1989
What are you doing in most recent days? Do you feel to hit the road again?
I'm writing and recuperating. Writing great songs with Paul, Gene and Adam (Mitchell) and mending my collar bone. It broke in a car accident. I wasn't in one though! A car hit me crossing a street.
(Editor's Note: Bruce broke his collar bone after being hit by a car, over the summer, while in Los Angeles during a break with KISS.)
What do you enjoy/hate most about touring?
...Love playing for our fans. A new city every day.
What are some projects that you would like to do while in KISS? Outside of KISS?
Maybe some session work, writing music and produce some bands.
How long have you known each member of KISS?
Paul the longest... ten years or so. Eric and Gene six years.
What has been the most valuable lesson learned (so far) in KISS?
Go for it and burn! Do what you're great at, the best you can.
Can you sing well? Do you think you'll get a chance to sing (lead) while in KISS?
Not really. My backround singing is a help, but the lead singing stays in the shower!
What KISS songs are you most proud of co-writing?
"King of the Mountian," "Hell Or High Water," "No,No,No."
Whom do you have the best relationship with in KISS?
All members about the same, although Eric and I get to spend a lot of time together.
Do you plan on producing other artists?
Yes. The first group I worked with 'Electric Angels' will be singed to Atlantic Records soon!!
What do you see in KISS' future?
More albums, tours and lots of fun with the guys and our fans.
What was it like to play in MeatLoaf?
We toured for a year. What an extreme personality so I learned a lot.
What are your fondest memories of playing in BlackJack?
Opening for Peter Frampton for thousands of screaming girls!!
-Bruce Kulick

ERIC SINGER INTERVIEW WITH FURY ROCKS
Singer: I call it the "Drummer Olympics." It's like who can be the fastest human in the race. I gotta say, there are some amazing drummers nowadays. I think the reason is that nowadays they have much better tools to learn from than when I grew up. At that time we didn't have DVDs, videos, MTV and all these instruction tapes and private lessons. Now you can go and take lessons from some of these drummers by buying their instruction DVDs, using computer programs. Now you have all this best information available to you. These kids have a lot of great learning tools nowadays. I also realized that I never had the ambition to be faster than everybody. That is not important to me. I leave it up to the guys that enjoy it. When I see it, I am blown away by these guys' fantastic technique. I admire what they do but it is not something that I aspire to do.
Fury Rocks: You grew up during the beat generation. In that time, the drums were recorded with only two microphones and the sound was, let's say, slight. Nowadays drummers have much more possibilities. Where do you see further capabilities?
Singer: I was influenced by a lot of '60s music, but probably more by the '70s stuff. I was born 1958 so by the time the early '70s were around, I was a teenager. That's the age when music has the most impact. Well, I think everybody should explore whatever different styles and technologies that they like. For me, I still like the idea of just playing real drums and live in a band. In some bands it works good with backing tracks or loops, you know, especially in bands like those of MADONNA and BEYONCÉ. Something like this would have these really big productions on record and to reproduce it live you almost have to do it. And also they have everything with the lights synchronized with the computers and with the dancers, it is very important to keep in. To me, one of the most important things in rock 'n' roll is the human aspect. You know, playing the instruments and keeping it real and live. The beauty is, sometimes you are not having such a good night and you make mistakes. But the great thing is, when you play the next show you have the chance to make it better or try something different and experiment. And that's the beauty of playing live drums. To me, you can't reinvent the wheel. I mean, a drummer is basically a drummer. The function of a drummer in the band is to hold the beat and to provide the rhythm. A drummer like Terry Bozzio really took drumming to another level and created it more to an individual voice of an instrument, he has done some incredible things like making drums an instrument that is not just only there to keep time. But that's not the kind of drummer I am. I enjoy just playing live in a band and doing my part of creating this chemistry of sound.

FIRST KISS ALBUM IN TEN YEARS!
(from Billboard.com)
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Kiss has reversed course and decided to hit the studio next year to record its first new album since 1998's "Psycho Circus." Guitarist Paul Stanley will produce.
In recent years, bassist Gene Simmons has been vocal about his lack of enthusiasm about making a new album, which he attributes to the state of the business.
"The record industry is in such a mess," he told Billboard in November 2007. "There is nothing in me that wants to go in there and do new music. How are you going to deliver it? How are you going to get paid for it if people can just get it for free?"
In 2006, Stanley told Billboard making a new Kiss album in the shadow of the band's classic repertoire would be a formidable challenge. "The fact is, [fans] may tolerate the new songs, but it's the old ones you want to hear," he said. "I think Jimmy Page and Robert Plant found that out. The [Rolling] Stones certainly know it. The Who certainly know it. So unless you're willing to go into the studio accepting that how your album will be received will never match your expectations, I'm not sure it's worth the effort."
Stanley admitted complete control would change his mind. "I would consider doing it if I could do it the way I wanted to do it," he explained, adding that his 2006 solo album "Live To Win" confirmed how he'd "like music to sound that I'm a part of. To do another Kiss album, I would not be willing to compromise my point of view perhaps as much as I have in recent years."
It's unknown how Kiss will distribute the album, which will feature original members Stanley and Simmons alongside guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer.Following its 35th anniversary tour, which primarily played Europe this summer, Kiss is expected to hit North America at some point in 2009.
Below is a link to Paul's interview on San Diego's KUSI TV News while in La Jolla, CA., for his art showing at Wentworth, discussing KISS doing a new album and a tour of the US and Europe-

GENE SIMMONS INTERVIEW WITH THE EDMONTON SUN
By FISH GRIWKOWSKY
Gene Simmons, ever the promotional multitasker. Paid and flown in to E-town to cut the ribbon on a new Future Shop while simultaneously promoting his new Guitar Hero axe, he's also in the city to scout new talent for his record label.
Simmons sees himself as an early prospector of our country's untapped, future musical gold mine, internationally.
Working with Universal, he wants to find bands who posses both that undefinable "it" but also the egoless willingness to let an experienced rocker like him call not just some, but all the important shots.
KISS WILL HIT EDMONTON
In a sit-down interview at the Hotel Mac Friday, he reminisced, threw a proposal to take over the NHL's marketing on the table and confirmed a number of basics. KISS will be touring again this summer and back in Edmonton as soon possible - one of their very first gigs as a band was at the U of A, after all.
Repeatedly referring to himself as someone who sees the big picture, I asked him what he would do if he was president of the United States.
With some shocking and fascinating ideas, the bass legend with the giant tongue did the rest of the talking.
"You couldn't pay me enough. Because a lot of people would try to knock me off. Because I don't give a s---. I have a Schwarzeneggerian point of view. Which is if you have enough money to say, to do ... what you think is right that you're elected for, there are no political repercussions and you don't care. Not about your party, not about anything.

KISS MASK INTERVIEW WITH DEUCE NEWS
(NEXT KISS MASK ARCHIVE INTERVIEWS: In celebration of their birthdays in the month of December, KISS MASK will present the CATMAN, PETER CRISS and BRUCE KULICK! STARTING NEXT WEEK ON KISS MASK WEBZINE!)
Today I've the pleasure to introduce you my buddy J. Frank Hagan. Frank is currently running a great weblog KISSMASKWEBZINE born in June 2008, but his KISS jobs are really a little bit older.
Hi Frank, let's talk about KISSMASK, the fanzine!.
I started the fanzine in 1988. It was around the time when there were about twenty five KISS fanzines going at one time. So many that KISS gave us all credit on the "Hot In The Shade" album and KISSTORY. I loved doing it because I was in the printing business and one of my jobs was proof-reading as well. I met an enormous amount of people through KISS MASK and made a lot of good friends through that 'zine. It was a very exciting experience. Now through the webzine I meet cool people such as yourself. So, through the band I still continue to make good friends.
You came out with great interviews (I recently translated the one with Eric Carr). Can you tell us your impression about the KISS member you've met?
Although I've met Gene and Paul many times, I've never interviewed neither. Eric Carr was just so cool. I can't say enough things about him. He was very supportive of KISS MASK from the begining. So was Bruce Kulick, always there. Ace was hilarious. My interview with him was a laugh a minute. I'm not so sure he wasn't buzzed when I interviewed him. Peter was also very cool. Very accomodating. I've met both Ace and Peter many times. It's always a treat being around them. One of the most interesting interviews for me was Bill Aucoin. He is very informative and honest. Eddie Kramer is fascinating to say the least I know Bill and Eddie are not KISS members, but they are so important to the history of KISS.
You are also known as Wildwoodkiss75 in some KISS forums, would you like to tell our Italian friends the nice story behind that?
I first saw the KISS in Wildwood, NJ in 1975. I wasn't supposed to see the band. My mom saw KISS on the Mike Douglass Show and forbid me to see them. She didn't know what to make of them. I was actually at the Jersey Shore that summer in nearby Cape May and my brother was going to the show. He got me in and we never told me mom until later when I was older. Ever since that time in Wildwood, I was hooked on KISS. My one brother was into the Doors. My other brother was into Led Zeppelin and I had KISS! I had no idea they were recording the show until later on. I believe they used "Black Diamond" from Wildwood, NJ. So that's where I got my screen name. You are a photographer right?Yes I am. I have not only photographed KISS but also Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, among others. I love photographing KISS. They are so animated. They give you great poses. They really know how to work a photo.
Coming back to the web, you know your weblog is one of my daily readings, why did you decide to come back with a fanzine (on line this time)?
Thanks! I read yours too on a daily basis! There is so much activity on the web. I really missed writing about my favorite band. I worked with several fanzines after I folded MASK. With MASK, I just didn't have the time for it anymore. And I still continue to write and photograph for some European websites and 'zines. I missed the creative control and I thought what a great avenue to reach so many more people than on the web.
2009 seems to become a really great year for us diehard KISS fans. What do you think about?
I think KISS is going to have a stellar year in 2009. I think they will do a new album. I think the time is right for new KISS music. I hear all the time that it's not real KISS and yes KISS will always be Gene, Peter, Ace and Paul. The original four will always come to mind. But there are many formations of KISS. Eric has been associated with KISS since 1989. Tommy's been on board for so many years. They are part of the KISS family. And if Gene and Paul want to continue doing the band, they have every right to do so. It's their baby. I think a new album will come. Paul is certainly hinting around about it in the press. The idea of Paul Stanley producing is very appealing to me. The guy reeks of talent. KISS will finally tour the US next year as well as going back to Europe. While they are out there they should go back to Australia and Japan. They draw huge crowds there as well. KISS attracted huge crowds in Europe in '08 as well. I think it's going to be an exciting year for KISS as well as the fans!
Frank, I really thank you, for spending some time here on my DeuceNews, hope to really meet you somewhere, sometime.
