THIS DAY IN KISSTORY...

10 years ago today, KISS opened their Psycho-Circus tour on a chilly night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The first three songs were broadcast live on FOX nationally after Gene, Ace, Peter and Paul all had roles on a special Halloween edition of the FOX TV show Millennium. KISS ICONS SALES FIGURES

According to Nielsen/SoundScan, KISS IKONS four cd box set featuring cuts (with their own cd) from each member (Ace, Gene, Peter & Paul) sold 2,220 copies in it's first week of release.

GENE SIMMONS' AXE FOR ROCK BAND/GUITAR HERO

(from Kotaku.com)
Just.. wow. Yes. Approved. Ok, technically Simmons is a bass player - but who in the hell cares when you can own this?
The Gene Simmons Axe Guitar features 'ultra-responsive frets' and an 'analog whammy bar' but fuck all that - this is a guitar shaped like a battleaxe as used by the guy from Kiss with the tongue and the big face who was in that film with Magnum and the killer robots. You know the one.
This beauty is compatible with Rock Band and Guitar Hero and seems to feature Simmons' signature as well as a representation of his greasepainted mug, so one would assume it is an official Simmons Product. Santa, I hope you are reading this and can take a hint.

PAUL STANLEY & LOU ANTONELLI WORKING ON ANOTHER FILM PROJECT

PAUL STANLEY and "LIVE TO WIN" director LOU ANTONELLI are working on yet another film together titled, "the Artist's Gaze."
From an Interview with Lou Antonelli---Lou picks up the story from here...

"That’s something we’re evolving as a film. We’ve been working on it for over a year now. The film is called “Paul Stanley: The Artist’s Gaze” and again we’re back to the aspect of the gaze, the stare, comes from the eyes. It’s all about his work as a fine painter, his evolving work as an artist, how it’s coming from deep within him. And I think one of the things about Paul’s art that’s really fascinating is how emotional, how romantic it is. The visual quality of it that he’s bringing to it that’s coming from very deep inside, I like to see how that’s growing and evolving with him, and for his audience in art that’s coming out. It’s really from art critics to art collectors to casual people Paul is bringing to art through the celebrity of KISS that he is bringing to art for the first time. He’s really exposing people to expressionism and different ways of communicating visually that they never had seen before, I don’t think. So at least from what I’ve seen at galleries and so forth, a lot of people are telling me that, so it’s very…
"One of the things that, and even with KISS in any way, especially around Paul, it’s always very genuine. People have a genuine love and affinity for him and I think when they buy a piece of his artwork, it’s like a piece of him and it literally is. It literally is a piece of him because it comes from way deep in his soul and in his heart and the way he communicates. So that’s one of the things we’re evolving in the film “The Artist’s Gaze.” We’re not in any hurry to complete it. It’s a thing that we’re evolving. The best films are films that hopefully come out in a way where they evolved over time. They took on their own life, their own feel. And then when they’re ready to be born, they come out and they say here I am, world, I’m ready to take you on. That’s the same thing that happened with “One Live KISS.” It evolved over time and it became, with Paul’s influence, a different film than I originally intended to make. And that’s a great thing."

PAUL TALKS PAINTING AND TOURING WITH ROLLING STONE

PAUL STANLEY recently spoke with RollingStone.com about his painting and KISS' 2009 Spring Alive/35 US Tour.
For the past year, Stanley has been touring his original artwork and will open a new exhibit this Saturday at a Washington, DC area gallery. “It’s been terrifically successful,” Stanley tells Rolling Stone. “And the great thing is I never expected it. I paint for myself. If no one else likes it at least I do. I have never approached things to please other people in both art and music.”No stranger to art, Stanley studied at New York’s High School of Art and Music, the inspiration for the film Fame. “My best subject must have been lunch,” he says. “I didn’t get along with authority and it turned me off art.” Failing art class, he dropped painting for music.

Years later, while going through a painful divorce in 2000, Stanley found solace in painting and picked up his brushes again. Now, he clearly takes pleasure in knowing his art reaches different crowds — both KISS fans and art collectors.“I see people at the gallery who will never go to a KISS show and people at a KISS show that will never go to the gallery. And then there are some people in between.” His pieces, mostly four-by-five foot acrylics done in bold colors with intense strokes, brought in $2 million last year. His originals fetch as much as $70,000, with limited-edition prints going to $1,000. Even KISS co-founder Gene Simmons, known more for his shrewd business practices than for his eye for art, bought one of Stanley’s works titled “Statue of Liberty.” “The monetary aspect validates it that much more for him,” Stanley says.Meanwhile, KISS has been gigging consistently for its legions of fans known as the KISS Army.

Fresh off a 30-show Kiss European tour, where the band sometimes played six shows a week, Stanley says the group is fit and finely tuned these days. “The band has never been better, never looked better,” he says, adding that KISS is planning a 35th anniversary tour this spring.

PAUL STANLEY ON THE KISS LOGO

Paul Stanley recently told the McLean Connection in Virginia that he is behind the famous KISS logo, "I've always had a clear vision for the band and what I wanted it to be." I thought Ace initially created the logo? I know Paul refined it. Read below a snippet from that article.

Stanley's hand was behind the makeup and costumes that helped make KISS world-famous, as well as some of its set designs, album covers and apparel. "I always had a very clear vision for the band and what I wanted it to be," he said. He created the KISS logo sitting at a table in his parents’ house while he lived there. "That’s why the two S’s are not completely parallel," he said, adding that when the band’s design team offered to straighten them, he declined. He didn’t start painting again until about eight years ago, when he was going through a divorce and a friend suggested he resume the hobby. "It became a very interesting way of confronting a lot of things that were going on, and it turned out to be a journey I’m still on," he said. Stanley said he’d had no intention of showing his art, but when he hung one of his paintings in his house, visitors wanted to know whose work it was.

Back in September of 1974, Bruce and friends Mike Katz & Guy Bois (KKB) entered New York's Sudden Rush recording studio armed with a handful of songs. The reel-to-reel tape of those sessions sat forgotten for decades, until Bruce found a TEAC reel-to-reel player at garage sale in 2006. While looking for something to play on the new machine, the "KKB" sessions were rediscovered! Though some repair work & mastering were done to the tape to get it up to digital standards, no overdubs or new music were recorded.KKB 1974 is ON SALE NOW in a strictly limited pressing of only 1,000 CDs, all of which will be hand signed and numbered by Bruce, and will include a limited edition KKB guitar pick (while supplies last).

ACE AT CHILLER AUTOGRAPH INFO.

ACE FREHLEY will not be autographing guitars and pick guards when he appears for one day at Chiller Theatre Toy, Model & Film Expo on Saturday, October 25, 2008. The three day event Oct. 24-26 will be held at the Hilton Parsippany, Parsippany, NJ.
Much seems to be made over the fact on web-sites that Ace is charging for autographs, but the fact of the matter is MOST celebrities at this particular event charge for an autograph.
For more info. click http://www.chillertheatre.com/main.htm

Editor's Note: There appears to be an influx of negativity regarding Ace's decision to "charge a fee" for an autograph. Reality is that these type of events with celebrity appearences do charge per autograph and I can bet there WILL BE ACE FREHLEY autographed related memorabalia on EBAY the very next day or as soon as that very same night. We don't know what kind of fee Ace will charge, but we feel that it won't break your bank account.
